The growing challenges in sprint event is a sure indication that American dominance has faded & is replaced by smaller country having focused attention.
instead of using a complex(less heard) word like hegemony you could have written 'leadership'.....why unncessarily use a language for which people have 2 pick up the dictionary.....

The author started learning new words so he is desperate to use those words. The slightest opportunity the writer gets he will use it.
