What do you mean by "begging bowl"? come on man/women whoever you are. If they are asking and BCCI is ready to give what is wrong in that and what is wrong with you?? You should appreciate that two sporting bodies are having good relationship and BCCI like elder brother is supporting football. I will really appreciate this gesture by BCCI. In fact government should give loan to various sports associations in India and take it back when these sports bodies start making profits. What can football body do when they don't have money but are trying hard to survive?? If BCCI gives 10 crores, then well done BCCI. I hope one day we qualify for Football world cup and some day win it. If we win many olyimpic golds many sports that will be great.

govt. has to levy 50% tax on everything cricket does. right from ipl to international odis and test matches bcci conducts. by doing so the govt. can then develop other sports also.
its really sad other sports in india such as hockey, football, athletics are ignored by the govt. and media hyping only cricket.

Yes it is a begging bowl. Even if the BCCI does give the money, is there any guarantee of accountability or will it go into the pockets of the AIFF officials. Fact is Indian football had sponsors, but they were treated so badly that they withdrew.

Balaji, do you know what is the state of affairs in BCCI. How much of Pilferage is there within it? NO !! So countering allegations against AIFF is unfair. How much corruption could there possibly be with a poor man. He lives within his means. Right!! Fact is Indian football at present does not have that large a following. The reasons for it are beyond the reach of this forum or the space availability for this post. However it is constant struggle for other sports to develop here in India. The FACT IS AIFF SHOULD ASK THE SPORTS MINISTRY FOR FUNDS AND NOT RELY ON ALMS FROM BCCI WHICH ITSELF IS SO CORRUPT

BCCI must not hold its purse strings
by Paul Deepak on Aug 04, 2009 04:56 PM  | Hide replies

BCCI should consider it a National Responsibility and Grant 100 Crores to AIFF. AIFF must make public the intended use of the money and submit a report on the end result. AIFF has to be made accountable for the moeny it takes from BCCI.

The first part may happen. The second part(accountability of AIFF) will never happen.

I think BCCI will definitely help AIFF and it should because as we know football is not as popular as cricket so it only can lift this game up and make our nation proud. We should help the players for such cause afterall we are Indians and any game we won will make us proud.

The BCCI is no doubt a powerful body in India.BCCI should not only promote cricket but lend a helping hand whenever it can,to other Sports Federation so that India can produce more stars in other fields.

Brothers, its not about race, its about our economy and poverty. How many people in India can dare to choose sports as career when there is no future in that except for cricket (that also only few people do). It is difficult in India to choose sports as career as you may die hungry after working hard for many years. Didn't you hear the news how they pack olympic athletes in one hotel room (not all but 10-15 in one room). They don't give enough money to players to prepare for olympics. It is just for saying that one billion people and no gold medal, cricket team bad, no football team but if you see number of people who try to choose sports as career would be much less in India. Thats why we are not able to compete. I don't blame people for that. It is just because we need to look at best opportunity for survival first. In European countries people support their home teams through thick and thin. Here we appreciate if we win otherwise we start going for the blood of players.

Do you know when a fast bowler throws 20-30 overs in a day or a batsman bats a whole day, how much stamina is required?
5 days test match is required more stamina and fitness than a 90 minutes football match where a player can any time replace with substitute when he is tired.

30 years ago, cricket was nowhere in India. Hockey ruled supreme. If the BCCI is so rich it is because it went out and found the money to expand the game, and did not go to the government with a begging bowl. Whereas the powers that be in other sports went to the government with a begging bowl. They did nothing to promote sports, they just spent huge amounts of public money on projects which went down the drain. If you look at the stadia built for the 1982 Asiad, most are in a disgraceful state. Indian sport suffered under several old bandicoots who rule for several decades without performance without accountability. In contrast, nobody can hold a post for more than 3 years in the BCCI. There are several problems with the way it functions, but the BCCI is light years ahead of other sporting bodies. Today if the BCCI is the richest sporting body in India, it is because of the hard work put in over the last 30 years. And you want them to give it away to institutions which have no accountability. Maybe they should invite cricket administrators to run Indian football. For all their faults, these guys are way better than all these bandicoots.
As for giving money, where is the accountability? Is there a clear roadmap? What are the short term objectives? Do these people have anything like this or will they put the money into their pocket?
