cannot compare multi-venue 1 month IPL to small davis cup tie
by dumbeldor dumbu on Apr 26, 2009 11:53 AM  | Hide replies

it was difficult to provide security at big stadiums and hotels across the nation for IPL over the *entire* period of the elections.

Davis cup is a one week single venue tournament played in smaller stadia.

thank you PC, you've done your job very well!
by wizardo id on Apr 26, 2009 09:24 AM

the security shadow boxing could have been dealt with better - thanks to PC and his bungling, we have asstralians walk away from us. even this round could have been saved, but its the usual arrogance of a cocky man.

Aussies think they belong in Europe and are unfortunately saddled next to Asian countries. They fall at the feet of Europeans and think they are superior to Asians. They can pack their bags and play with Europe if they want. They are really not needed in this part of the world.

AITA is absolutely right

Double standards of Aussies have been exposed again. Did the Aussie cricketers say anything during their Ashes tour in 2005 when the London tube bombings took place ? but when it is Asia everything is different .

on the other hand, i do not understand two things:
a) Why is everybody bent upon conducting all these events when the election is happening?
b) Why are security forces, who are paid from taxes of you and me, being deployed for private events like this and the IPL?

Mr Rai,I thnik you are mistaken.Regarding b) you must be aware that it is the job of the law enforcing agencies like the police or other security apparatus like the army is supposed to maintain the law and order during organised events of any type. That is why the Government is collecting the taxes from you and me.

"Why is everybody bent upon conducting all these events when the election is happening?"

the government knew about this event well in advance. its not like they woke up one morning to find IPL. IPL has a narrow window of opportunity - in case they want all international stars in the tournament.

"Why are security forces, who are paid from taxes of you and me, being deployed for private events like this and the IPL?"
your question answers your question! its not a private function where people aren't invited. you sound like you've woken up after independence or soon after indira gandhi's times. its not like a wedding where people are invited - its of course very much a public event, involving an entire nation! what the indian government did was capitulate in order to win the election - this is the crux of the matter - they dint want to take chances for THEIR prospects. they aren't too bothered about it happening on an everyday basis during non election times - evident by our previous home minister - changing clothes when the country was burning. cops ad ambulances arrive at a fury if a politician is hurt, and not when civilians die in bomb blasts.

the english never refused to host an event because of security. GOI has done that, the aussies are probably thinking that if the GOI itself is not confident why go there??
there is no point blaming other people if the GOI itself is not worried about projecting the correct image? the davis cup is only a minor problem, can you imagine how many tourists will stop coming to India because of this?
if the BJP ruled states can provide security to IPL, why cannot the rest of the country? Tourism will be effected a lot because of the petty politicis between sonia and pawar
