Actually speaking, I don't know who all received the padma awards! If one looks at the recent controvercies in the selection of awardees,it can safely be said that most of the award winners belofy lots of papads to get such awards - because they will sell their names after that.
Dhoni and Harbhajan do not need the awards to increase their fame or popularity.
The bottomline is, our narrow minded politicians have already made these awards big jokes. Had they maintained the sanctity of such an institution nobody'd have dared to be absent.

tumhari kyon jal rahi hai phir, agar woh nahin aye award lene, zindagi bhar kuch kaam aisa kiya award lene layak?
Indian sportsmen do not give importance to the country or awards from India, they give value to only money. Shame on these people. These should persons should not be selected for awards.

Your attitude to your Parents at home is also same.Respect beta, Respect elders, Parents,Teachers,State leaders, religous heads. These are basic things we learn at schools.I pity your father who created you in wrong time at wrong place.

OK respected Mr Mammen,
Can you count any good thing about our president. few points - herself engaged in so many scams - her family having inappropriate assets - Cheating case - no record of good LS wins....

Respect is never ever demanded but commanded.Unfortunately our President falls short on that count.
Mr.Gill before you choose the awardees, just go through the Biblical sayings. It is wriiten " No Good father will throw away the bread to Dogs which is actually meant for his own children".First of all, they are not interested in your awards, they want money, and they are getting it.If it would have happened in our neibhouring China, they would have gone home, their entire career banned for life.

In china they would have fried your a$$ and eaten it , smart alecs like you have their bones broken there
all r says dhoni and bhajji are wrong, they r behind money n all... but guys they already have crores of money in hand why then they ll miss a event like this... this is not this simple as it looks... their is something else story behind this which is unseen by common man. dhoni and bhaaji are not fool who misses this kind of national level award. The level where dhoni reach only few smart people reach there. remember people who have guts they only choose unexpected ways.

i agree to you 100% Ranjit. Dhoni & Bhajji aren't fools to ignore such an event. At times people tend to forget that cricketers are human beings as well...they also have a family to look upon...they also have dad/mom/siblings/spouses to be with...
I've a strong feeling that the award function details have been passed over to Dhoni/Bhajji with very limited notice period (1-2 weeks)....Cos I consider both these players as PATRIOT INDIANS esp Bhajji; so no way they can skip such an event....
A SLAP IN THE FACE FOR THOSE SLUM DOGS WHO HAILED THOSE TWO SUB-STANDARD PLAYERS AS HEROES. WHAT A DISGRACE. THE CAPTAIN OF THE NATIONAL CRICKET TEAM DUMPS A CEREMONY PRESIDED OVER BY THE HEAD OF THE STATE. DHONI AND HARBHAJAN ARE TWO GREEDY PETTY BEINGS.

Indian president is no Angel either! Government of India must understand its award do not matter any more and should use the money on better facilities for budding sportsmen.

Mr. Kullback,
I thought your were a sensible person but it looks like, by talking about credentials of the president instead of condemning these two dogs in this case, you some personal grudge against India.
Please look in to the list of awardees and then think do they really deserve to get those awards. There are many film stars and rich ppl who are getting these awards and i dont understand why they are nominated first. By any chance do they serve the country or are they engaged in public service?? the answer is "NO". Dhoni deserves more than what these simple personalities get and yes if these simple ppl are getting such awards these function is simple and Dhoni is justified to skip this function

You shouldn't be living in India. Get out of our country you unwanted P-I-G.

these awards should be scrapped and must be used for better sporting facilities.

I support scrapping all these awards and using the money and time on healthcare and basic education of poor kids in INdia. If you really want to help achievers, there are other ways of helping : better sports facilities, better research facilities, better environment for journalism etc...these days good people in every field get recognition/fame/money naturally. Why should government of India give certificates? Govt of India is such a failed entity - look at the situation of slums in India. I wonder why people accept these token awards which is a waste of tax payers money.

Mr. Kullback,
I firmly believe that awards are given in appreciation of one's contribution. I am of the opinion that awards are must in any society or country. However I agrees, these awards should not be at the cost of other important investments.

The point is, every field has a natural recognition. Also, there are bodies such as BCCI, Nobel committee, Journalists association that recognize achievers. Government of India is often biased and most of these decisions are made by Babus. It is just a part of the red tapism. That is why I oppose these. I wouldnt have opposed it if every kid had access to a good playground and then government gave medals!!! govt hardly does anything about primary education or sports at the grass root level....but honors people at the top. It is shameful and just tokenism

Are you out of you mind? Nobel, BCCI committee ---are not biased.
tell me why Mahatma Ghandhi did not get Nobel peace prize.
Anyone can talk what you are talking. Your comments look hollow to me, sorry to say.
