why is rediff so insensitive??
by gaurav on Apr 13, 2009 06:19 PM

why is rediff so insensitive towards our men's hockey team? These guys have won a very prestigious tournament...sultan azlan shah cup..and their is no news or any story about them. Same thing if have happened with indian cricket team they would have been heralded as heroes or gods..although m not against it as i too believe in sporting laurel recognition and m too an avid cricket fan...but this injustice against other sports is totally uncalled for. Media in our country not only rediff....always publish articles on cricket n cricket n cricket..in such a scenario a normal indian is bound to lose interest from other games which r really big in other countries and are recognised too as an olympic sport.

Shame on you - Not the clubs
by Vicky Dey on Apr 13, 2009 10:49 AM  | Hide replies

Hey Gurpreet,I do not know why you feel shame for the Indian Clubs. It is only us who have turned our faces from Indian Football. Today Cricket is getting so much money whereas National Club Footballers travel in general sleeper class to play in other states. Today we enjoy seing Manchester United beating Chelsea - but nobody even knows the name of All 11 players of Indian National Football team. You say they are a shame. They are representing India in global stage - no matter in what rank they are. What have you done to represent India in Global stage. They are heroes.I am proud of them , if you can't then do not write such shit in the forum. If you are so ashamed of Indian Football go & cheer for IPL - indian league happening outside India........what a shame!!!!!!!!

i don't even know there is an Indian national football team. Indians lack the killer attitude so they can only be good at lazy man's sports like cricket or chess. Even after decades of football the clubs are nowhere compared to best - even African countries with far inferior training have done better.
Ahh..I feel so lazy to write all this ..zzzzz

Gurpreet, don't talk rubbish. People like u are like our Indian Women who know only Sachin, Dravid. Cricket grew popular only in the 1975 and till date only 12 to 15 teams representing in a world cup. whereas soccer has a world cup history from 1930 and requires pre-qualification for their world cup entry.

In india, every bum encourages only cricket, which is played for a whole day, where as soccer game is just 90 to 120 mins game.

for the world cup 2002, pre-qualification matches were held in Bangalore, the players who represented the indian team were every day walking for practise from the hotel to stadium with their kit (even the coach Sukvinder singh & tech director Krishanaji) becoz their had no sponsers.

In kerala & goa, there are more Soccer fans than cricket.

In local soccer tournments in Bangalore there are more crowds than in Local Cricket matches.

there is a lot to state, but I have no time

Its not a problem of sponsorship or popularity, its about the standard of game.
Raise the standards and people would flock and sponsors go where public goes.
Nobody would watch a game as boring as cricket then.

Football in India is still sustained by its fans, their love for the game and emotional support for the clubs.
