Congrats for Indian Team, at least not people start supporting Indian Hockey, stop giving undue importance to cricketers, take time off from cricket, get involved in hockey its our national game.

read in the 2003 march issue of Autocar India magazine that Dhanraj Pillai used to travel in a Bajaj scooter and later a Hero Honda splendor in 1998 even when he was playing for India. Then he used a old Mahindra jeep that was provided to him by M&M when he played for them. His first car was a Ford Ikon diesel that he bought on installment! He said " Hockey players are not a pampered lot". So in this backdrop, these players should be properly honoured by the Governments and corporates.
The pity is, even after so much time after this news broke, I have not seen pictures of this team either in action or anywhere else on any website.
Its a really heart warming news ... Really good for Indian hockey and for the younger generation too as it gives them the impetus to think something else besides cricket. Let this win be the turning point in hockey and IHF should use it to leverage some money and sponsorships towards the game and take it to the next level. Maybe India can regain the Olympic title once again. Just quick question... Is KPS Gill still the chief of IHF? That guy should be gotten rid of asap with some new and young blood who can bring a new era of management.
@puneet gera : When was it last that India won the cricket world cup please remind me. Indian Hockey has probably been more successful than cricket over the years. Its just that Pepsi,Coke and Nike dont like the sport and havent given them money and therefore havent popularized the sport.

atleast even media highlights when india wins the series say like in newzealand.but when india wins hockey,news is always in back page.not front line news'.I think media also plays role in making things popular.there are always live telecasts available for cricket,they have sponsors but not so for hockey in which india was once famous like dhyan chand
since india retained this cup title after a long gap of 13 years,there is no wonder as to why the hockey is not popular in india as compared to cricket

you are wrong.India recently won t20 championship as well as the under 19 world cup in cricker dear.if hockey is national game,why there is no live telecast of the game?
