Federer has a few more Grand Slams in him
by jack on Sep 09, 2008 12:05 PM

There is certainly no reason for Federer to stop. He can conserve his energy and concentrate only on the Grand Slams and add a few more to his kitty. Mats Wilander recently said that Federer may find it difficult to regain the no.1 spot as he may not be interested to play in too many tournaments to garner points to get back to the top. However, he certainly can add a few more Grandslams. If the ranking comes along with the Grandslams, well and good. You have a player like Davydenko who plays day in and day out, adds to his points and stays at no.4 or 5, though his Grandslam record is zilch. Federer should forget about the no.1 ranking and try to win a few more Grandslams, Nadal or no Nadal. Federer is already great and Nadal has a long way to go to achieve the greatness of Federer!

We all agree that Federer is great. What we do not agree is that Nadal is almost there. In the coming years it is Nidal who is going to make news. One failure does not make him small. He will remain no. 1 for a long time. Just watch.

Dude: Whatever you say, Nadal has a long way to go before he achieves the greatness of Federer. Remember, of his 5 titles as on date, 4 are on Clay. That makes him a very great Clay court player. And for the first time he had a very great year. No one is questioning the playing abilities of Nadal and also his news making abilities in the coming years. I only said he has a long way to go before achieving the greatness of Federer or for that matter of Borg or Sampras. Of course, Rod Laver will always be the greatest of them all.

This was Nadal best year and he won only 2 grand slam in which one was French Open.
Do you think he can dominate next year in presence of Federer, Djokovic, Murray? Nadal doesn't have class like Federer to maintain success. Nadal will surely win some grand slam in upcoming years but he can't dominate like Federer.

Quite true; Federer should conserve energy. Imagine Pete got his first US open in 1990 and his last one in 2002, a matter of staying (no.1 or not) at competitive tennis for 12 long years. While federer started off seriously in 2003 and within 5-6 years he is 13 Grand slams ans he can certainly overhaul Pistol Pete's grand slams. You said it right, conserve energy and participate in the right ones to be a great athlete.

well said Murray!!

"I came up against, in my opinion, the best player ever to play the game. I got the better of him the last two times we played. He definitely set the record straight today, so congratulations. Well done."
this reflects murray's great attitude and respect to FEDEX!!
we are going to see a lot from this guy too!!

Everybody gets stopped by somebody, someday. Nadal is an excellent player, so is federer. Only question is whether Nadal could sustain the No 1 position so long as federer. Djokovic, murray and other host of young players are breathing down the neck of Nadal, including Federer. Only time will tell.

Nadal will continue to dominate on clay and maybe on grass court but he will not be as successful as federer on hard courts. I think Nadal may not win a US open or Australian open.

Federer the GREAT

I'm a BIG fan of Federer and I'm in very good mood today because of his victory. I had lots of fights with my friends here defending Federer when he didn't have better times earlier this year. I feel one needs support when down rather than writing him off in terms of age etc. This is not just for Federer, for each one of us. Hence, he proved that he can get back to top form with the support of his fans and I'm very happy to see so many supporting him. Nadal is also good, but as many said in here, he still has a looooooong way to reach greatness of Federer

C'mon Guys...face it...nadal's rise to no 1 is more bcoz of federer playing well below his level rather than nadal improving..can someone here tell me how has nadal improved over the past 2 years in technique & skill?
he's a terrific baseliner...has amazing stamina...ripping cross-court forehand...but he had all that before din he?
so why din he climb to no 1 Spot over the last year?

as was evident in this years US open..Fedex is loved by people all over the world..because his brand f tennis is attractive & elegant...this is not to deny that nadal isnt...but peple will always continue to love fedex as he is...he's the people's champion...!!
