by arul m on Oct 31, 2008 07:38 PM

C'mon, can you not give Anand his moment of glory, you now need all the ghosts to land in front of him and challenge for a match play.

So he will have to play all the past champs from 1800s and win to prove he is "Worthy" of you adulations.

Kaspy had his time of glory, let anand have his, why burn

Why not a Dronacharya award for Chess
by LESLIE LAWRENCE on Oct 31, 2008 11:09 AM

Anand's mom has given Anand the initial touches of chess. This mom would have been an GM had she picked up the ropes herself.

Ok all great sports are being promoted and even the coaches/ trainers are awarded national awards. Now that India has produced so not only chess wizards but also champions should'nt we think about an award for the coach/trainer.

The second GM of Asia has triggered a spurt of youngsters to line up behind him, many also becoming GM.

Who is the previous best from India, and from Asia.

Very abusive remark. Just because people from Hindi belt are not economically prosperous as a group does not mean you should use such language.

Dear Harish!
Karunanidhi will not name a Road in chennai after the Grand master becoz Anand is a Forward community guy Karunanidhi thinks and openly shows his hatred towards entire Forward community(bramhins) manytimes and he is accusing them as invaders (aryans)thro' Kaiber and bolan paus ways and does not belong to tamilnadu's dravidan culture. So Don't expect Karunanithi who is playing caste plotics over the last 60 yrs will honour the grand nmaster by naming a Road in Chennai after him. there will be Periyars and Annas name for most of teh Roads buildings,Bridges in tamil nadu but nothing is named after the deserved

really....there are a few brahmins in DMK right now.Do you know that?

also there is Rajaji Salai in Chennai.
Now tell me which caste Rajaji belonged?

anti-brahminism was there in 60s and 70s..now its almost non-existant and we are all improving as people without discrimination against caste, creed, sect and religion.

TamilNadu is ONE OF THE FEW STATES in INDIA where hindus and muslims live in HARMONY.

He has to name his children, grandchildren name before he does this. Do you need this at all?

Has the chess federation named any event on behalf of him?

Let us not belittle Anand by making these political claims

If you know the context in which he said that, you wouldn't blabber this. Give him some respect man... In a country where any sport otehr than Cricket is effectively prohibited; we didn't even have an International Master - here was the first Grand Master; keeps on miantaining the world leadership - becomes the disputed (from 'some' Russian GMs)and then, undisputed world champion... stil his countrymen talk this S**t about him..! He is the inspiration to so many Koner Hami / Harikrishna like youngsters to come forward and take up Chess as their main stream career and be Grand Masters ...!
If a Sachin Tendulkar / Dhoni / Rahul Dravid are gerat - nothing to take away from their achievements - but, Vishy is equally great..!

Someone said some time ago - Indians don't know how to respect their heroes...!!!

I am not a tamilian. And I don't hail visy because he is a Tamilian - but because he did all that as an INDIAN..!
One of the worst trends I am seeing on these Rediff blogs these days... the moment some supports a person, immediately we start attaching the regional clour to that blogger..!
What am I upset about..? Below:
1. Your ignorance about a National Hero.
2. Without knowing the context, you talked S**T about the game, gave him money and all that rubbish...!
hope the above clarifies..!Next time when you talk about any National heroes, please undersatnd the context first and then speak.

Libran - Leave alone bharat Ratna mate... our country doesn't even give him Rajeev khel Ratna...!
Disgusting - but true... if Dhoni (anothing to take away from that man...) can be a rajeev Khel Ratna - why not Vish Anand...??!
Oh - yes - Chess can't be 'telecast' live and hence, it doesn't have marketing muscle..in India..!!!
