all those who are talking about indian sportspersons, well, no indian sportsperson has ever been a house hold name around the world coz india have never had a star in a globally popular sport
anand is a dignified and awesome in what he does but chess is a board game and in sports countries, chess players are not regarded as sportspersons, chess players are not sportspeople but smart fellows

btw india's finest sportsperson has been ramanathan krishnan who was ranked no 3 at his best in the amateur rankings in an era when tennis players turned pros but tennis is globally popular and krishnan might have been in the top 10 tennis players in the world when he was no 3, remember almost all greats were playing in the pro circuit, so they did not have a ranking in the amateur list

we have never had an international level, soccer player/golfer/formula 1 driver/athletics competitor/any other tennis player as far as top athletes of the world are concerned in globally popular sports(even krishnan cannot be included coz in his days, pro tennis was the place for the best players)

crickters play a small commonwealth sport and no indian bolr has ever had a bowl avg of less than 28 ,hence we india have won only 22 percent test matches in r history

hockey is an amateur sport and billiards cannot be called a sport in the actual sense

Pathetic Media !!!
by abc_xyz abc_xyz on Oct 23, 2008 12:37 PM  | Hide replies

This year JAN, Current Tennis Champ Rafel Nadal had come to chennai to particpate in the Chennai Open. It seems, during one of the media sessions, he once enquired about the whereabouts if vishy anand ..he said "vishy anand is so popular in my country SPAIN, and iam glad to be at his native place and would like to meet his family atleast, if not him"..

and as expected, out dumb cricket-fanatic media didn't respond back properly and were insisting him "if he ever got to watch cricket and our cricketers in action"

pathetic people !!!!

kramnik will be dead meat infront of Anand, so that Anand leaves him alone.

Anand is highly superior to Kramnik. kramnik is still a ignorant kid. These games will teach him a leason not to indulge in loose talk about Anand.

Anand should not stop untill he gets the winner trophy for the World Chess.
This should be highlight of his career.

Rediff! you too........
by Babu Kothandaraman on Oct 23, 2008 08:02 AM

Hello Rediff!
Your chess coverage about the 6th game of WCC 2008 was completely unacceptable.
All the live feed from Rediff is good in general but up to date (up to the minute) info is lacking.
Your report on Game 6 was like a decade behind.

May I suggest you to appoint a two member committee (there are a lot of current and former players available - pls. contact AICF) to analyse the game and report
That would be very nice of you!

Wake up rediff
by adi piran on Oct 22, 2008 10:06 PM  | Hide replies

Firstly, you are reporting the news of anand's victory in 6th game after 8-10 hours after the event got published in other media. Secondly, the lead is not decisive yet. It gets decisive only after one person gets 6.5 points. Right now it is a huge lead which will require big comeback from Kramnik which is unlikely(not impossible).

I agree with adi..it takes you people (rediff guys) 1 min to update cricket news but a whole day for any other sports..pathetic reporting...it's the world championship of chess for crying out loud...

In cricket too they make hundreds of silly mistakes, these people cant even handle the automated 'Report Abuse' perfectly.
But till people like us visit here out of curiosity for their mistakes they will continue to do so.

I am sure I'll beat you in Carrom and be crowned the world champion.
Hey Chess is played all over the world. Its not easy to be a world chess champion. By the way how you reached Afganistan, you walked all the way. Poor guy, I stayed at home, no hassles of traveling and I challenge you for a match at my place

anand is the best sportperson India has produced if you look at the number of countries that play chess.... he has won all the tournaments possible in chess.... held number one position for a very long time...... he comes within top 10 players of all time..... the only other two who are there with him are dhyan chand in hockey and sachin tendulkar in cricket........

dont compare ANAND with TENDULKAR
ANAND is A CLASS , tendulkar always sulks under pressure but ANAND is a GENIUS,
tendulkar is nowhere near ANAND

don't forget that sachin single handedly took india in the semifinals of 1996 and finals of 2003 worldcup..... cricket is a team game if he failed in finals others should have done the needful......

I think it is irrelevant to compare Sachin Tend. and Anand Vishy. Cricket is a team game whereas Chess is an individual sport. However I do feel Anand has not got enough recognition in the country. May be because Chess is not a crowd pulling sport. It may also be because Chess, as Garry Kasp. and his predecessor luminaries said, is a fusion of science, sport and an art. Very few can appreciate the logic behind a good game of Chess.

but how many times sachin gives fatastic n constant performance....
no count of this n anand come back from bad patch.
i m not saying that anand is not genius. he is a genius player n we can't compare both player cause they playing different game.
chess is 1 to 1 where cricket is a team game. if other player fail then pressure on sachin n its always happen.
both games are different so don't compare anand n sachin
