NEGI
by Braj KISHORE on Oct 02, 2008 05:32 PM

I think, new generation does not know the real story of NEGI.
He was even forced himslef out of the Delhi Hotel during taking his food. Police needed to come and take him out because all the people sitting around him chanting at him, NEGI, a traitor. That was the story 2-3 months later than 1982 ASIAD final.
And the same NEGI was taken on the shoulder of the local people when he was instrumented to make india in taking Bronze earlier in same year in Hockey Champions Trophy, 1982, Netherland.

This is India, bnadhu.. :)

I Regret

I had seen that match between India and Pakistan. But I think more than Negi, it was Zafar Iqbal, then captain who was cursed more, though he scored the first goal. Roumour was that Zafar would have taken money.

What the truth is only the players in the team knows.

However what Negi had gone through is terrible and my sympathies

negi was targetted after that finals. which also ended is career in the international scene. but he is also wrongly credited with being the reason for the sucess of the indian womens team. actually kaushik was the coach when the indian womens team won the gold in the common wealth games. negi was just the goal keeping coach of that team. negi is claiming credit for what kaushik did.he has taken the media and public for a ride though i dont blame him for that. it also shows the lack of information the media and the people have of indian hockey

It was the 1982 Asian Games final against Pakistan. India took the early lead through a Penalty Stroke, but after the lead Negi conceded 7 goals.

Final score was Pakistan beat India 7-1. I felt it was match fixing from Negi.

I though it was commonwealth games and not asian games

I think Negi became popular when women's team defeated english women's team in commonwealth games in manchester and not asian games..
