Tennis far more competitive than badminton
by sandeep kumar on Nov 03, 2008 08:36 AM  | Hide replies

Just by playing few tournaments and without winning any titles in the senior tour, she's now now 11 in senior ranking. Same with gopichand, who won 1 all england, and his ranking went upto 5 or 6. SHows how less competition is there in badminton. By contrast,Sania even after playing many tournaments managed a ranking of 28, which is far far better as tennis is THE most competetive sport on the planet(there are 1000 players listed in the official rankings!!). So is 30 out of 100 better or 11 out of 100 odd. Simple answer. And also the fact that sania missed a few due to injury, and her ranking went to 90. Shows the competition that exists.

Hey you are comparing Badminton to Tennis. India has created world beaters in badminton Prakash, late Syed Modi, Gopichand. Dont take the credit from them. And All England is the toughest competition in the world. So if Gopi became 5th after winning it, it shows the competition

This was your post during the olympics,
1. Saina: quarter exit
2.Anup : 1st round
3.Champiya: early exit from archer
4. Bajrang lal lakra: early exit
5. Boxers: somehow hanging on
6. Sania: 1st round
7.Rathore anjali jung etc: Dint qualify
8. Judokas: Anonymous
9. WEightlifer monica: drugs
10. Atletics: no hopes
11.Dolo banerjee: dint qualify

The said post of yours was in support of our cricketers, condemning other sportpersons.

Now we know we got 3 medals there and our boxers were not hanging, they made us proud. And a shooter got a gold.

Child you forget that cricket is played by a dozen nations amongst 200 nations and still you seem to be spending your lifetime posting messages in their praise.

Talking of competition in this world, cricket is the least competitive sport in the world.

Now coming back to the point Saina will win the world senior championship take it from me. And she does not have a blank slate, she has won a couple of tournaments, just find out.

I like all sports, I support all sports. Its a joy when Indians win. Specially in sports which some Indians refuse to entertain.

Why is this reported for abuse. Mr. sandeep reply to this one. If badminton is not competitive, then obviously cricket is not.

Yeah I read this message of Mr. Sandeep. Why do you demean other sports.

I love my cricket. They are our heroes but praising them and criticising Saina is foolish. Mr. Sandeep is staying in a fools paradise.

Saina is our pride. India's future. I don't discriminate sports but please dont belittle her achievements. Sania deserves praise as well. They are playing 2 different games. Gopi has made us proud as well. 5 > 11 > 30 and there is only one 100.

NO spotlight on Saina
by Saurabh Pawar on Nov 03, 2008 07:47 AM  | Hide replies

Congratualtions to Saina for putting india on the badminton global map... n she has found herself a good coach in P. Gopichand who himself was a great player ( cannot forget the match between him and chen hong to win the all england championship)...
Sadly, this great feat achieved by her was not "starry" or "masala" enough to get the eye of the great indian media.
Amidst the news of the the great indian bowlers retirement, the news of Saina's win remains conspicuous by its absence...

Dont blame Indian media my friend. They were the only ones who support India when the Sydney test fiasco took place, and also support for gambhir for no fault of his. Also, Anil Kumble has served the country for 18 years. He deserves far far more attention, than the other youngsters. We must be thankful to Indian media, for most important thing is to show that your a supporter of your country.U really missed NDTV(hindi) mocking the Aussie cry babies when gambhir ban was given!

Real talent!
by shiva on Nov 03, 2008 06:42 AM

Having played against ordinary blokes from other countries, I can say Chinese have real racquet skills, honed down the generations. And what stamina! Table Tennis is dominated by them. The best is protected from poaching by others. But it boils down to "real" Chinese & others from China who have taken a new "avatar". Even otherwise, badminton is mostly dominated by Chinese origins in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand etc.

To expect Saina to dominate the sport will be asking for the moon. Yes, we can have a world champion in cerebral sport like Chess. But for a purely physical one like Badminton & that too for a woman! Pardon me, but having followed the regimen of Chinese atheletes, it looks a daunting task! The best from China are groomed from the age of six or less & isolated. From the thousands, a handful are trained not to lose at any cost. They look plastic & devoid of emotions. Win at any cost & never make the country lose face!

Saina is a rare talent & let us not put pressure on the girl. That can be counter-productive & break her will to play, forget the victories.

It is real tough out there!

real time
by Harish Aggarwal on Nov 03, 2008 12:50 AM

Its now the real time Sports Ministry & IOC should consider other sports very seriously.
India has a talent pool in all kind of sports.
Just get rid of this CRICKET now, its enough.

I didnt get surprised when I saw precedence of Kumble's retirement & other two more cricket news in Headlines Tab of rediff home page.
Saina & Nanao were nowhere.

Indian Media really SUCKS

CONGRATULATIONS!
by Harish Aggarwal on Nov 03, 2008 12:45 AM

Saina,

U have proved urself once more.
I am proud of you, im a big fan of u.
Keep the spirit

Saina (Jr world champ) &
Nanao (Boxing Championship)
are the real youth ICONs of India.

Hats off to your efforts.

BCCI, Sports Ministry just look at these kids. They (includes Vishy Anand) r far much better sportsmen than our so called GOD (tendulkar), Wall, Jumbo etc.

Would sports ministry, or parliament of India do anything what they r planning for our GOD???
