let's not waste our time on small matters
by Raghavan on May 02, 2008 04:48 PM

I think let's do something constructive rather than comment on such issues.
Let's Educate our kids on our culture and what is good for them because we cannot stop all these cheerleaders similar to the way we accept our own people on screen

She is not opposing cheer leaders . All she's is saying is about the obscenity and vulgar dance steps of cheer leaders. It's not acceptable in a public place.

Question is how much clothes they should wear and answer is how much our culture and society permits. You can't watch those girls with your 10 year old kids.
People who are bashing her are talking nonsense without any logic.
Do you think the govt. should allow NUDE dances also ? With your argument, it should.Let's not let others(western world) set standards for us. We have our own culture and we should respect it.

As I have said before all those who favour nudity and vulgarity in the open, should take their wives, sisters and daughter to the field and et them preform the act of cheer leaders in skimpy clothes.
Why Ogle others females when you can ogle and lust on your own.
Clean the act and have clean non vulgar cheer leaders, that every one can enjoy.
Any why do vwe want cheer leaders the public is there to watch and cheer their side of the teams any way.

Why dont you shift base to Afghanistan or Iran - you will find people who agree with you in those places.

If you dont like other enjoying themselves - close your eyes and sit at home.

The cheerleaders have a much better life than you - you loser.

Not so thoughtful, PT !
by Your Nemesis on May 02, 2008 04:15 AM  | Hide replies

Usha's comments are hollow and shows the stale old school thinking.

Let's stop and think - Is cheerleading the only thing that is spoiling our culture? If so, in what respect? When I last checked, our 'culture' had already been spoilt for many centuries now, in the same respect that these cultural saviours are talking about.

Haven't PT Usha watched our movies, where our revered actors and actress' do all, but stop a little short of interkor$e? Aren't we famous for the Kama Sutra that has a specific chapters on how to court other's wifes? In what way are these cheerleaders worse than these perversions that are in-build in our society and culture? Aren't the same dresses the CLs wear seen on the streets of Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore?

These girls aside, doesn't the act of spectators shouting vulgary and lewd comments from behind strike anybody's eyes? Is that a good part of our culture?

When your a$$ is bleeding $hit, there is no point complaining that the passing breeze is smelly !!!

People like her want nothing to change so they can keep doing whatever they want. Similar to many of our politicians who are basically not open to anyone else improving.

Cricket is itself adopted Western culture. What's the big deal if more Western sporting influences come in? For one, the state of sports in India is appaling. A third world country with ethnic strife and much greater poverty lik Nigeria brings home more medals at the Olympics.

Culture is not what we read in books. It is what guides our behavior. If men on Indian streets tease women and burn their brides, that's our culture.

To all the moral police on this board ...
by John Corniche on May 01, 2008 09:18 PM  | Hide replies

If you don't enjoy, then switch it off.

Whats so threatening in those bunch of cheerleaders ? Its the politicians of this country who are fooling you time & again with such frivolous issues & divert attention from the goverance issues.

They want you to forget the inflation, they want you to forget about the N-deal which will give you power for your fans/acs during these summer days. They want you to forget about the pot-holed roads inspite of paying road tax & tolls.

And these moral police are not ashamed by the suggestive dances made by the bollywood heroes & heroins. Infact these very people teach these gyrating steps to their children to participate in cultural competition.

Lust is in the mind. If there is no SIXER or a FOUR, those cheerleaders have no value. Cheerleaders are like pickles & not the main course. But if these moral police are having piles/fissure problems, better avoid the pickles & the hot stuff.

But why arguing here, don't switch on your TV sets ... thats it.

Restrictions on society with myopic ideas will not work. Thats why repressive societies have failed world over.

Cheerleders-Profanity is in the way you see
by TK shekar on May 01, 2008 08:43 PM  | Hide replies

What is wrong with the sports persons? They are jumping on the cheer leaders as if there are no other issues. Look at P.T.Usha , what is she upto now? I believe that Indians and especially the ones who are commenting have become gross in their thinking. We are also behaving like the Taliban. Commenting on profanity in dressing has become a fashion of the day.It is as if an opportunity is being missed out when you are not among the commenting ones.

Men and Women are equal
by Practicalman on May 01, 2008 08:19 PM

Todays world says men and women are equal, then why cheerleaders are only girls, boys sjould be included as well. They are entertaining the men, what about the women? do we need naked boys for the women? Are we Indians so degraded? Sometimes we say ours a different culture, sometimes we cling to westernise. What a hypocrised society. We are paying hefty amount for these girls, does cricket in India need cheerleaders, is it not a croud attractor? What has happened to indian people...

Solution is very Simple...
by imran patel on May 01, 2008 08:09 PM

The only people that can stop this are the people of this country.

If the people feel so passionately about this, turn off your televisions. The ratings will go down and the necessary changes will be made.

Does Usha not see the skimpy dresses that actresses wear these days ?
Why does that not affect our culture ?

Culture is what we accept and follow as a nation. If the Indian people cannot reject this filth by themselves, then our Culture will not be the same as we know it.

It is not the job of the government to protect "culture". Government should mind its own business and fullfill its basic obligations.

Banning these things is not the solution.

But I urge my fellow indians to take a step back and think about the filth they are watchin on TV. Is this the best you can do for yourself and your children ?

It is not the government, but it is your responsibility to protect and educate your family about these influences.

You are failing and as a result the country is failing in this department.

Solution is in your hand. Turn off the television !!!
