chak de India - but when
by ashok chere on Mar 22, 2008 09:20 AM

i have been a die hard fan of Hockey. But off late chak de hockey team has given me more tears than cheers. it's extremely unfortunate that India failed to qualify for the olympics.

However all is not lost. After all it's just a game. winning and losing is part of it.

i see a crack in the mental stamina of the Indian Team. umpteen number of times, we have lost from the winning positions. the killer instinct, that is so very important is somewhat absent. Though i do not wish to pass a judgment, it is apparent in the matches.

I have met Dilip Tirkey, Prabodh Tireky and Vimal Lakra in persons. All are players of substance and quality, but thier skills have not materialized in the podium finish.

well. kab hoga chak de India for the hockey team.

"Tirkey wants to work with upcoming players and teach them the tricks of the trade to excel at the top level after he leaves the scene."

What tricks? How not to qulify for olympics? How to beat up on minnows? How to turn up a no-show in matches that matter?

Good luck.

Agreed. Dilip Tirkey is highly overated. Not in the class of Pargat Singh or Surjit Singh or frankly even Michael Kindo.

DILIP TIRKEY

The wall of Indian hockey, a great player, a great personality, Dilip, has some more years left. The poor performance of the indian team recently is because of the forward line and mid-fielders. But, I am very optimistic, that the indian hockey team will bounce back and find its lost glory very soon.

Yes, true. Orissa is producing many Hockey stars both in men's, women's team. Though it's producing great stars, in 'Chak de' movie, they didnt show any girl from Orissa in that 11 girls. Anyway, its movie only, but the fact is many dedicated players from Orissa. We shouldnt be down with not qualifying for Olympics. Keep focussed and we will become World Champions. Cheers.
