To me, this is a huge disappointment. The Olympics represents a historical and premiere opportunity for athletes to represent their country. It's important for foreign relations as well as an act of kindness toward fellow mankind. It's more than just tennis, records, money, etc... it's patriotism, honor, a platform for world peace, setting examples for younger generations, and another opportunity to fulfill a dream that so many seek. Not to judge, but I feel if it were me I would not only be obligated but honored to be apart of the Olympics...
I think this is pure opportunism. He sure as hell knows that a depleted US open draw sans federer, nadal, djokovic and murray will make that he atleast start as the favourite and gives a psychological boost to A Rod. With Fed, Nadal or Djokovic in the fray Roddick with his one dimensional game can also never win the olympics Gold. Winning Davis Cup has more or less fulfilled his national obligation for the year and Roddick is free to try another shot a Grand Slam glory.

he is not stupid, he is clever. in Olympics (that too in China) Rodidick's kind of game wont get him beyond 2 rounds. where as in US Open he can at least make it to top 8 and carry home some money!
