have you ever held a tennis racquet in your hand you good for nothing ass... how many trophies or awards have you one... i am sure you would have an indian cricketer as your ideal who have not managed to win a World Cup in the last 25 years... stop criticising Federer if you don't know what he has achieved... btw have you ever topped at anything in your life except probably sulking...

That he has to clarify it in so many words, is a pointer towards the real possibility of him being over the hill. In the race for World no.1, Nadal is too close to him, and another loss Indian Wells and / or Miami will bring an end to his reign at the top.
His game shows; he is over the hill. That is why he has to make it up with words.
Nonetheles, he has been a great champion.
