Mr Saxena, cricketars are most criticised than any other players in India because most Indians love cricket and treat the game as relegion. Hocky is in present state because of politics in Hockey Federation and lack of interest in the game of people. Hocky, tennis are such games which can not be played by masses but crciket can be by any two persons with ball and bat in hand. Indians love success and if India qualifies for the Olympics every Indian will feel proud. But why compare with and critisise Cricket? You may not like cricket but cricket fans in India like hocky too.

Why Print or Visual Media dont give the details of the matches in length. Cricket is hyped by the combination Media, Mafia, Businessmen and Cine artists and keep the glamour going on despite loses in matches despite bas performances

there is no need to criticise cricket or earnigns of cricket palyers. If hockey is not popular in masses is the failure of Indian Hockey federation which is a goverment body (BCCI is private body) and failure of two cartoons gill and jyothi

Scrap the qualifiers
by rahul kapoor on Mar 09, 2008 02:16 PM

Playing the qualifiers is really a waste of time because all weak teams who have never played before compete in this event.Average teams like india should be given a direct entry into the main draw but there again it is of no use as our paper tigers fail against hockey powerhouses like germany, holland, argentina etc.,These qualifiers hold no meaning and is a waster of time and money for the indian government

india is one of the top teams in cricket with cricket actively played by only 10 teams in the world....thats bullshit......whereas hockey is played by 30-40 teams all over the woorld and competition is very much high in hockey than cricket......top european nations ,china, russis, korea, australia all play hockey....if india catches even in top 10 position in a sport that is played by 30-40 nations all over the world.....that will be an great thing ....not claiming top 10 position in cricket actively played only by 10 nations all over the world......cricket is for time pass, luck from rain god, and some mental games while hockey is all about power, precision and team work......while cricket has scope for individual heroes like scahin whil hockey is purely team game.......there is no scope of one-man army in hockey while cricket can have one-man army like sachin......

You can say whatever you want but Hockey will never ever gain importance over Cricket in India. It will not happen even in the biggest of dreams.

And whatever you are saying... ur comparison is totally biased over hockey. No game is easy. And no game is better or tougher than the other. Every game has its own strengths and weaknesses.

Never make such immature and useless comparisons.

RE:cricket and hockey
by Freebies Free on Mar 09, 2008 03:03 PM
Cricket took so much enormous popularity in India due to historical reasons and due to luck.

India won World Cup in Cricket exactly at the time when Colour Television had started (1982) and TVs were getting accessible to the masses.
This gave renewed interest in the game, and the rest is history.

While Hockey and Football are both action-packed games and get unrivalled attention from most of the countries of the world, Cricket is limited to the British-ruled countries, and among them too, not many take it seriously.

Both games have their own merit, but we must not forget that winning a Hockey World Cup has much more credibility than winning a Cricket World Cup - due to the intensity of competition involved.

You might remember that Olympic Hockey was entirely dominated by India for several decades of the 20th Century, but in the 2nd half of 20th Century, more and more countries joined Olympic Hockey and India started losing its champion status - more and more aggressive competition.

Not so biased to cricket. But, there are few valid points. It is luck for cricket to gain the name, but, many people misusing that, like BCCI. It is nonsense IPL cricket also. Hockey also must be encouraged and it is not less to cricket.

Both are good teams. Anyway, that%u2019s the way it is and we have to see what happens today %u2013 the match starts at 2.30 a.m. IST Monday morning (10th). Millions of Indians will be hoping that we emerge victorious.

Listen guys nobody plays for their country anymore. Most definitely not our pampered cricketers. Take away their money and see how they perform. Hockey is n Olympic international sport unlike cricket and requires both mental and physical fitness. If one cannot earn a living even after playing hockey for 5 years how can anyone take up that sport or any other sport for that matter? We need to assure all Olympians that there is financla security in sports or otherwise everyone will only take up cricket and India will languish in International events forever.

Cricketers earn because they win. Hockey players will also earn if they win. From an assured place in S Final we have come to stage where we have to qualify( Like Holland, Ireland, singapore in Cricket), what the Hockey players are complaining about??? First show results and then complain. Cricketers got money after only they won W Cup(1983)!!!

India won the Hockey World Cup in 1975! Long before the Cricket World cup. As usual, individuals assume greater images than the game in Indian sport...whether it's Gill, Dalmia, Kalmadi, Bindra or Pawar. The Premier Hockey League (PHL) in association with Star Sports has definitely lifted the game a bit. It's not the same with Cricket. ICL and IPL will burn out cricketers and the first nails on the coffin of test match cricket have been hammered! The lazy elegance of an Azhar, Laxman, Lara, Tendulakar, Vishwanath or the wily bowling of a Bedi, Doshi, Prasanna, Kumble, Warne, Murali, etc., are dead.
Astro-turf killed the dribble and subtle skills of hockey. It's only speed, smash, trap and scoop now. Any team that is slow and poor in trapping is doomed.
And where is Indian Football? :-)
Paes & Bhupathi could have won more grand-slams and olympic medals, but can't play together! Only, Anand doesn't seem to have any problem yet. Somehow, Prakash Padukone and P.Gopichand shone like lone stars...
Yes, infrastructure and financial security would help sportspersons to improve their performance thro' better training. Let's hope we'll get few medals in Beijing! Jai Hind!

Indian Hockey Team Technically Very Poor in the Feild.
by Johnson Marwin Martis on Mar 09, 2008 10:32 AM

Last week I watched hockey league hockey match between India and England . In that match Indian players playing hockey very rough way. Instead of hitting hockey ball , they beating England players, and getting yellow cards. They are very technically very pooor in attacking the goal post of opposition team. There is lot of weak points in defence line.My Question is that why Indian hockey team always conceding opposition team last minute goal. There is lot of weakness in stoping opposition team in scoring goals. Indians playing hockey very slow mannners.they are not passing balls quickly.

India is not one of the top teams in field hockey anymore, why media hypes the team as a medal prospect every Olympics I don't know, it should focus on areas where India maybe has medal prospects, like weightlifting, shooting and track/field, possibly Tennis...field hockey, even if they qualify for Beijing, they will end up at the bottom

I hope Indian team will do well.

money and fame comes together with victories .. remember cricket of 1975-80 to say till 85 where hockey was on top and much say cricket was going unnoticed .From that time cricket started to gain control ..they started more glamor because they started winning important cups like world cup, Champions cup etc and unfortunately we started to loose every thing in hockey ...

main thing was we never adopted to new western/European styles of hockey and unfortunately all hockey rules were made on power rather than skills..and we missed to compete and is not india only pakistan also suffered the same ..but still i think they are far better than us ( do you think they have more money ?? ) ....

I think Indian hockey should change and play more attacking /aggressive hockey and start winning some small tournaments ..and if they win medal money will pour in ..

A win against two or three country is hyped by the media like anything in cricket as if a world cup is won but when the question of hockey comes ur kinda ppl with negative approach come forward.
