revival of last survivor at wimbledon .......raj
by raj mane on Jul 01, 2008 04:59 PM

Croatian Mario Ancic, the last man who survived from Federrer’s slaughter at Wimbledon, won a five set thriller 3-6, 4-6,6-3,6-4,13-11 against Fernando Verdasco yesterday.

Ancic was the last man who has beaten Federrer in Wimbledon that was too in year 2002 now has set-up quarter final against him.

They say history repeats itself……..can Ancic do it again?

Mean while Federrer come over another ‘last man’ trivia, by beating Lleyton Hewitt who was last man to lift crown at Wimbledon in year 2002 before Fedex’s invincible era started.

Federrer must be worried because even if he manages to overcome Ancic he has to most likely to face Marat Safin in semis who knows what it takes to beat Roger in major clash as Safin defeated Federrer in 2005 Australian open final.

On the other side Nadal has quite smooth sailing so far but now he also has to face another five set thriller winner Andy Murray who also won five setter when he was two sets down. Pretty much like Ancic. What a coincidence?

In women’s draw Jankovic & Kuznestova joined the shock list of early top seed exits whish is already represented by top two seeds Sharapova & Ivanovic. Now as all the top four seeds are out its pretty much smooth for William’s sisters who has shared 6 Wimbledon trophies between them in last 7-8 years.

Stay tuned coz best matches of wimbledon are round the corner…………

Though Federer did manage to win; quite easily in the end, his play is still below the level required to beat Nadal and win the Championship. He gave enough chances to Hewitt, where a more acomplished and fitter player might have turned the tide. Nadal, on the other hand; despite being injured, gave no chances whatsoever to Youzny, who in the past has had quite good results against him.
Unless the luck was going totally against him, Nadal would have converted half of the brake points offered by Federer today, and it would have ben curtains for him.
As it happens, Federer has not been playing well, but only Nadal has the capability to take advantage of his inconsistency.

Federer s serve is stunning. Whenever he needs it - he has found it. I think nadal will find murray tough. Murray defeated Ernests Gulbis comprehensively at queens... And with the crowd behind him - murray is dangerous.... If safin beats federer - nadal has no chance against safin. Only chance nadal has is that federer makes it to finals. But then if federer makes it in style and ease against Marat, it will be very very difficult for murray or nadal.... Nadal can outplay federer only if federer plays lots of ground strokes na... but he is relying more on his serve.... Since we are talking about the last three matches at SW 19 london, Federer will be flawless in the forthcoming matches..... Curtains for everyone.... He is the best server around this tournament.... So its clearly either Safin or Federer to me... Murray has a 49 % chance against nadal.... He is a tough nut. The way he played gasquet - he is a force to reckon.... And if federer wins this wimbledon - mark my words... there is no stopping federer.... he will pull ahead....

bhai-jaan, simple... i mean there is very little hope or chance for nadal.... if murray doesnt beat him, federer or safin will.... I also say that the winner of safin-federer will go on to win the championship. At least with federer nadal has a chance... with safin nadal has no chance (pt to be noted here is that nadal will play safin if and only if safin gets the better of federer....)

Stop thinking and start praying for Federer again. The way an injured Nadal disposed of Youzny yesterday, should make you change your opinion about him.

he he nice try.... youzny played a five setter the match before... one long long match... he was drained out completely.... he wasnt even running well to get the balls to put them in the court and play the pts... if u had watched the match, nadal lost a break to youzhny in the first set.... his game is vulnerable... federer wont give any chance for a break... if nadal has to beat federer, he has to take it all in tie breakers.... his serve (even when he is not playing his best tennis.... ) is tight... nadal lost a set against gulbis... he had a very tight match.... murray had disposed of gulbis at queens with ease... i sincerely think that nadal has an uphill task ahead in the quarters... he can sure beat federer on grass... he has got the game... but it is gonna be draining and tough... his success also depends on federer not doing well... if federer plays a tight match with few unforced errors, nadal will be out in straight sets... i think federer will avenge rolland garros.... it will most likely be a 2006 final repeat... or if safin topples federer, still i will vouch that safin is too powerful and solid for nadal... his serve is untouchable.... and the point to be noted is that he has always managed well and played extremely well in grandslam semis and finals....

Well said Ms Patil. The only flaw in your message is: that Federer had to face 8 break points, and not brake points.

pathetic coverage
by Saikat Parida on Jul 01, 2008 08:59 AM  | Hide replies

Your coverage of wimbledon has been pathetic. Looks like you are only interested in the fashion on the court. You haven't mentioned about the other fourth round matches (tipsarevic defeat, clement, murray's amazing comeback) that got completed last night. Will your reporter come to office, browse some other sites (maybe wimbledon.org) and then copy the results to complete the coverage?

Very very true.... Rediff ppl have been sleeping.... Their coverage with Euro was drab and unoriginal... I think they have left wimbledon out completely.... No clear news about the upsets so far.... So many happening matches and nothing on rediff to show... All they have been talking about are WAGS at wimbledon, Cardigans and skirts (or them being replaced)....

And not to mention the Ancic vs Verdasco match, where the tie was decided 13-11 in the final set! What a waste!
