It is not proper english. There is no other meaning for word 'demise'. Here he is trying to introduce another meaning to this word.

Demise means death, and it is not proper word. These days, the english usage in reporting is below standard.

Agreed. The facts are also wrong. It says that Jelena's attempt to make the first grand slam final has gone in vain. What the heck? Who played the last French Open final? Maybe the reporter is not even aware that French Open is considered a part of the grand slam.
This is what happens if we encourage reservation quota. Bad reporters, bad english, bad engineers and so on!

The reporter is indeed right. Last year's French Open final was played between Justine Henin and Ivanovic. Jankovic has reached the SF of 4 Grand Slams, but never a final.
