I am not praising Portuguese...but tht is wht 100 years ago...now u go to Lisboa...wont find any racial discrimination .... But in Germany if u stay for a long period u are bound to feel it .... ask if u have ny frd or relative in Germany .... Perhaps u r aware of Holocast & what the Nazis did to the Jewish people ....i think the Portuguese atrocities in Goa is no match with the German brutality ....

remember the last world cup? Everybody (white, black, brown, green, red, pink) enjoyed it so much). Pay attention to that. I am german and have many friends living in germany that are foreigners or non-germans by origin. Moreover, my stepfather is jewish. Nobody has complaint about any racist or xenophobic experience yet. Germans are not more or less racist or stupid than any other nation or people in this world. It is weird which kind of discussion a football match can trigger...

I am living in Germany for many years. I did not face any racial discrimination! Chatt stop making stupid comments about Germany! Dont dig out something that happened 60 yrs ago!
it was an excellent goal scoring match. Germans played fast and aggressive unlike earlier matches. Portugal, flattered to decieve( chris ronaldo is only hype). moral of story is never write off big guns like germany and italy. they raise their game in big knock out games.
After seen germany matches in Austria,I have told that we never seen this type of germany .... Now German proved that again they cant die until they really die. and they played a superb matcha aginst tough team Portugal. "I am fida thats why like germany so much." Ujjwal
The match would be noted for a superb display by Schweinstieger - he scored the first goal and assisted in the next two. I felt that the next two goals showed the german superiority in set pieces and one touch football.
Let us rewind to the World Cup final in 1986 when Germany trailed Argentina 0-2 till 73 minutes and then scored twice from 2 corner kicks - goals were scored by Rummenigge and Voeller. I am sure that they had practised months before for these situations and knew exactly what to do.
Portugal played well in the first half and fizzled out in the second. As a german fan, I feel the two big M's - Mertesacker and Metzelder are capable of far better football.
For the semis, Frings should be back and he should form a lethal midfield with Ballack and Schweini. Prinzi Poldi also played slightly withdrawn to compensate for Frings absence but in the semis he should be on the rampage again. Klose is the new Gerd Muller - an absolute poacher who can punish the smallest mistakes.
Would prefer to meet Turkey in the semis. Croatia will find Turkey a difficult team to handle.

The second goal by Klose was a clean offside. The linesman did not oblige. Then there was one vicious push of Ronaldo in the box which the referee did not give as a penalty. All in all the Germans were a little more lucky. The Portugese played their heart out. All the German players are a lot taller than the opponents and that is a clear advantage in corner kicks. I do not think the Germans outplayed their opponents, like the Dutch did against France. Luck favours the brave. The German team spped pay was amazing. Their first goal was a beauty.
Germans have the history of playing well in big tournments unlike England. The weakest german team of all time has managed to reach the world cup finals in the 90s. Now I am speechless because I thought Portugal, Spain and Holland are the top favourites to win the Euro. Now I doubt about Spain and Holland too!

The Italians play the most compact defensive game - it may not be attractive, but they play to win by not loosing, not allowing a goal to be scored against them and when the opportunity comes - strike! They have begun with a defeat, followed by a draw and have now got a victory - they will keep up the good show - watch out for them!

You are talking probably of 2002. Germany were super strong in the 1990s - won a world cup, a euro cup. Their club teams won a uefa champions league and a uefa cup. So why are we talking of a weak German team???????
Germany were weak at the turn of the century. Now they are one of the best in the world.

Shut your mouth. I watch football because I love it.I don't consider who watches cricket or who doesn't. It is individual's interest.Who are you to dictate?

by ryan costa on Jun 20, 2008 03:48 AM
by your logic we should take interest only in those things that we are good in?? or close to world standard??
simple solution... you dont like football... dont watch it... but dont tell those of us who do love football what to watch and what not to

If we decide to watch only sports that India was good at, we would have live telecasts of Kabaddi and gilli-danda.
Perhaps by watching sports like football, ordinary Indians will be inspired to play such games.
After all, phyically, many of us are the same race as the caucasians, but we just don't like the hard work necessary to succeed in sports.
Germany have experience of big games. They have won 4 world cups in their history. As usual, Portugal disappoint at the big stage. They were a hyped team. Bastian Schweinsteiger is Da Man...what accurate free kicks.

Germany have won only 3 world cups, in 54, 74 & 90. Just go back to the records and see.

Schweinsteiger is the teling difference between two teams. Excellent one-touch football by Germans. They are team for the big occasions. Similarly don't write off Italy yet.
