Another prediction against the greatest ever!!
by suresh ganapathy on Jun 21, 2008 01:35 PM

Well going by Borg's accuracy of predictions (who predicted that Fed will win French or rather give a very tough fight to Nadal) i think i am happy that Fedex will win!!!!.. Yawn another "fed in decline" article, comments etc.. i cant imagine ppl questioning the greatness and ablity of a guy who is the greatest ever to play this sport...Wonder how ppl are hailing Nadal who hasnt done anything apart from winning clay court titles in his life.. pls go and chk statistic bfore everyone utters gibberish abt Nadal's achievements.. 90% tiotles have come on Clay...The media, journalists etc are all vultures.. ready to pounce on a guy who despite having the dreaded "mono" reched semis of aus open and final of french open and that is termed as "Fed in decline"..Wonder if there is anyone who had reached 16 consecutive semis and dominated the field like fed has...He is a champion and he will show that this wimbledon...

Federer not at his best
by Balasubramaniam R on Jun 20, 2008 07:37 PM

Federer is not at his best this yr. He might loose his winbledon title this yr especially so because Nadal is playing his best tennis. But Federer will bounce back after that. remember the resurgence of Agassi.

Borg is absolutely right!!
by Guest on Jun 20, 2008 10:15 AM

Borg is a tennis legend and one of top 5 players ever, he knows more about tennis than most on this board. He is absolutely right about his predictions, anyone who has followed tennis this year would agree. I am a big Federer fan but he is not same player this year, he has only won 1 title this year. Last year Nadal came to this close to beat Federer in Wimbledon final, this year Nadal is so much better (as proved in French open, Queen's Open ) and Federer is much worse, put Djokovic in the mix and do the math.

Fedex...the champ
by Virag Sharma on Jun 20, 2008 08:21 AM  | Hide replies

i think Federer is going to win Wimbledon 2008.

Its the same case with sampras...he used to come to Wimbledon..after having lost in French Open....but he never let those defeats get to his head

He would play his best tennis at Wimbledon..and eventually pocket that Grand Slam.

Same is the case with Federer...these are world champions..

and their funda is simple
"When the going gets tough, the tough get going"

Gud luck Fedex

That's just what Borg says!
by TongInChic on Jun 20, 2008 06:59 AM  | Hide replies

Guys, one of the greatest players in men's tennis (Rod Laver is the greatest ever) has given his OPINION. From the tone of some of the comments below, you would believe that he has committed a crime!

On present form, considering the number of unforced errors Federer was making in every match, he does appear to be jaded and not so hungry for titles as he was a year ago.

That's fine too. He is human.

Perhaps the loss at the Australian open was acted as a demotivating factor but I think he will be back in his element towards the end of this year and will try really hard for the grand slam next year.

Whatever happens, he has entertained us with his brilliance for years and we should thank him for it. And enjoy Nadal and the others who are vying for Roger's crown!

yes..perhaps he did not showed the hunger lately which he have used to seeing...but this wimbledon is the time for him to redeem his pride which was dented a little by nadal at french open. so be ready to see the level of tennis from fed which probably will sink all the players inclusing nadal, djoko..

Nadal's present form over-hyped
by kap jo on Jun 20, 2008 12:03 AM

Nadal's present form is being over-hyped by one and all. Everybody refers to the French Open final to indicate his demolishing form. But, what they fail to realize is that it was not Nadal's brilliance that rewarded him the lop-sided win over Roger, but it was over-cooked by Federer himself.(Not to take away anything from Nadal. But he played his normal game, nothing OUT OF THE WORLD!!.)It could clearly be seen right from the 1st game of the final at RG, that Federer was a lot more nervous than usual. Perhaps the pressure of winning his only missing Grand Slam got the better off his nerves. Even if he had played the type of tennis he played against Monfils in Semis, he would definitely have won at least a set or two and not gone down so easily. He was becoming very desperate, which was evident by the way he was approaching the net and failing to volley so many easy ones, from the 2nd set.

So, the only thing Federer has to ensure to win further Grand slams(possibly even French Open) is to clear the figure of 14 Grand Slams (of Sampras) from his minds or of Agassi,Laver,&co.(winning all 4 grand slams). That can possibly be the only roadblock ahead of him winning grand slams.
