Indian hockey players if paid well can do wonders. Our politicians need to look into it urgently.

What a pity ? No Telecast for India's National Sport
by Gulabjamun Bhujiya on Jul 13, 2008 03:22 PM

When I switched on TV , I was shocked to see that some recorded event like FIG Gymnastics World Cup was being shown instead of HOCKEY on our national channel.

What a pity. No telecast for India's National Sport. Although this is a tournament featuring Junior teams and not Seniors, still it is an INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT and its ASIA CUP HOCKEY (Juniors). Its a prestigious tournament.

None of the sports channels are bothered to telecast this BIG EVENT. But being INDIA's NATIONAL BROADCASTER even they are not showing this event live, although its being held in our country India in Hyderabad city. What a pity ?

Hockey is India's National Sport and Doordarshan is showing some recorded events like gymnastics World Cup held in China in which
not a single Indian participated and a programme which hardly 5% of India's population may follow on TV.

This is so sad. Due to such low or zero importance to hockey, poor standards and quality of hockey and poor awareness of hockey at schools
(added to which DD Sports doesnt even bother to telecast it) thanks to all these negative factors, this time our India didn't even qualify for Olympics
in field hockey.

Such kind of gross neglect to national game that too by our national broadcaster doesnt help the cause in any way. What a pity ?

Canada qualified for Hockey, but not INdia. Isnt this something to be proud of ? By not showing our youth this sport what are we achieving

More goals required
by Charles Farias on Jul 13, 2008 12:52 PM

Well done Indian team for their 2 victories over Japan and Malaysia, but we do need to improve our finishing and score many more field goals, because of the 5 goals scored so far, 4 have come courtesy Diwakar Ram, via penalty corners.

my heartiest congratulations to the team and their coach.Their hunger for victories should be very formidable to keep their form. They should look and prepare for the future without basking in the past glory like the cricket team who celebrated silver jubilee celebrations of world cup vicory with pomp loosing meekly to Pakistan and Srilanka.I think BCCI should appoint a committee for celebrating the golden jubilee of world Cup victory with participation from next of next of kith and kin of the victorious players and board offricials.
