It is very much likely that Nadal will overtake Federer even if Federer wins most of the remaining tournaments because Nadal had a bad hardcourt season last year. So Nadal has very little points to defend while Federer has a ton of it. But Nadal and Djokovich will have lots of points to defend next year while Federer will have less because of this year. So Federer will most probably regain his no.1 ranking.
For last five years fedex have reached almost every grandslam finals, now that what is consistency and a sole and powerful reason to be at No 1 spot. nadal no doubt is great player and always have surpassed federer many time thay hvae played against each other, but its not just about defeating no 1 player in world, you have to consistent in winning games against other players also. Federe being consistence throughout his career deserves no 1 spot in ATP rankings

Even Bjon Borg, Pete Sampras, etc etc were consistent throughout their careers..So can they be No 1 now? Nadal is the most consistent player in the recent past and the present..He deserves to be No 1 and will shortly be!
Even though nadal leading 12-6 in a one to one rating We have to note that federer is holding no 1 for the last 4 years, that shows consistency Nadal need more consistancy To reach no 1 is difficult but to ratain, is much more

Don't compare players of different eras... Wimbledon grass court has become a bit slower now... Thats one of the main reasons why Nadal won... If Roland Garros becomes a bit faster, we should see how it goes for Fedex... But unfortunately, its not happening for Fedex this year... He'll come back stronger next year for sure...

Yes. We need to look at remainder of Fedex' career before answering this question
What we witnessed in the Wim'08 Final was something out of this world. But one thing is for sure, Tennis is witnessing something never seen before...Nadal is an extreme athlete. Tennis is going to be swamped by power players like him in the coming years when it will be considered normal to chase anything from anywhere..such was his prowess in tormenting Federer ...by hitting back everything.... It was like Fedex was up against an immovable force that just won't cave in.

Rightly said... Thats one of the main reasons why Nadal wins Roland Garros time and again... Even Wimbledon court has become slower somewhat... Its sort of unfair to Fedex...
Both are extremely good players.Federer is a proven player and Rafa has to prove a lot in future.Pressure is on Rafa now, as he has to match Fedex in every game.Fedex's is a gentleman both on and off the court, very balanced and even minded player.Rafa is little aggressive and it helps certain players. All in all its good to see both the fantastic players in the same era, as we can expect much more cliff hangers in future.

Federer is a gentleman as long as he is winning the matches. You can watch him behaving sometimes and critising when he loses. But Rafa is aa very polite person, but yes on court he is aggressive....in his game not with mouth. He never talks aggressively and always praises Federer. Nadal doesnt make excuses as federer is making for baad light, etc. Federer's era is over now and Nadal is improving a lot.

Whom did Federer criticize??? Its just a comment that he made regarding the bad light... The whole interview was not published in rediff. You go and see wimbledon site for the complete post match interview. Nadal is very humble and he praises Federer because he knows Federer's capability. If Nadal himself praises Federer, why do u criticize???

Federer's era is surely not over. If anything it will motivate him to play better tennis. I really doubt if Nadal can keep up his form for long. Nadal's game is physical in nature and therefore more prone to wear and tear and injuries, whereas Federer's play is very efficient and that is one reason why he has not suffered major injuries so far in his career. Both are gentlemen. Federer has not made bad light as excuse, he has clearly stated that it is not an excuse.

Don't worry... He'll figure it out in one year... He will come with a game plan for Nadal next year...
Yep, whoever wins French and Wimbledon in the same year is world number one.
French is clay, relatively bouncy and slow moving and Wimbledon is grass, relatively skiddy and fast moving. French and Wimbledon are like north pole and south pole.

You should also remember that Wimbledon court has become a lot slower now a days...

but nadal has to retain this form for an year atleast to topple fedrer from top of the rankings...

Prior to Wimbledon Rafa was trailing by 1145 points to Federer. By winning Wimbledon, Rafa reduced the gap to 545. If Rafa wins US open, I think he can dethrone Federer from no.1
I don't think it would take an year for Rafa to reach the top of the ATP ranks

i think it wud be very difficult for him to win on hardcourts...because so fast are these surfaces that other players such as djoker, safin, tsonga will also be contanders on these...and nadal court coverage will not be that effective here...however the way he is improving..he will be very competitive....but still i doubt if he will be able to cross the agressive players..
