Nadal for sentiment, Fedex on form
by parthasarathy sarathy on Jul 05, 2008 09:54 AM  | Hide replies

Nadal seems to be the overwhelming sentimental favourite to take the title on Sunday when the clash of these two titans takes place for the third consecutive year. For me too, Nadal is the favourite of the heart. But, Fedex is a very very great grass court player, has not dropped a set in six matches (Nadal has dropped just one)and has the strength of five titles behind him. It will be difficult for Nadal to beat Federer tomorrow especially after his 18 unforced errors against an ageing German. Federer has hardly made any unforced errors, serving very well and looks the more dominant player on grass. However, should the match go to five sets, I think Nadal will stand a better chance on account of his undoubtedly better fitness levels. On balance, the form book points to Federer while the heart roots for Nadal. Let's watch a great final.

Those 18 unforced errors will not happen against Fed in the final. You will see the same Nadal that played Murray instead. Nadal does have lapses of concentration but they won't be like against Schuettler.

the way fedex is serving, i think it's going to be a straight set sweep for fedex...no doubt nadal is serving better than previously and overall game has improved as well but after fedex beat safin(which was a major challenge for fedex, given the form safin has shown)....i done see rafa winning even a single set..

Yeah Safin sure is similar to Nadal. A right handed player with limited movement who hits flat shots with a lot of unforced errors versus a lefty who moves like the wind, hits insane topspin and makes very few unforced errors.

Great comparison!

Better comparison is Murray and Federer - both play pretty shots etc.

Nadal remains the favourite. I am having a rather creepy feeling that this final is going to be an anti-climax, and one player is totally going to buckle under the intense pressure of the ocassion. It could be a no-contest; with the player with more mental toughness coming out at the top.
And generally, a physically tough guy, is a mentally tough guy.

It’s the sixth consecutive final in Wimbledon for Federer, then how many times had he won? Nadal had four consecutive title in French open, in clay court. He fought hard for last years Wimbledon.

Everything good. But wasn’t Fed the better?

What is the difference between Clay and Grass?

Anybody can win tomorrow. It all depends how they play as both has the capability to beat other. But I support Federer. May of the guys are simply supporting Nadal as he is young. Though, I belong to Indian youth, I must say we should not apply the same logic in tennis as we have for Indian cricket. We must accept the fact that age is not an issue till the time someone performs. Federer is older than Nadal but if he plays good tennis why shall we just support Nadal as he is young. If somebody has personal preference that is something else. Have we all forgot that Aggasi won his last Grand Slam at Australian Open at the age of 33. Why shall we just say always that only young must succeed. If we say so first we have to make sure young perform at top level as well. Getting quick bucks in IT and call center does not make young. As to be really successful everybody needs time. Only few like Sachin can be hero since age of 18. And come on guys, Federer is only 26. How many Indian young chap get a job at that age??? And he has won 12 Grand Slam.

it seems that u hav no knowledge of tennis... i think fed & nadal r the 2 great players of my era both in their game & their behaviour. No one in tennis circuit has ever commented on Fed's behaviour & i am damn sure nadal cud even think of saying anything silly to fed. both hav godd respect for each other & just like other sports, tennis of my era never used anything abusive to his opponents in men's game. i wud go with Nadal to give a good fight to Fed cos i need a young tennis player to dominate the tennis now. Fed is getting older in terms of playing in off-grass court

Seems Mr Rahul Prasad is either too new to the world of tennis or is simply too threatened by a particular player. Saying Rafa to be a loud mouth is like saying Safin non-temperamental!!! I mean some things are so evident that if people dont see them, then it simply means they turn a blind eye quite deliberately. Rafa and Roger are undoubtedly the two most humble men in the world of tennis today and thats why they are considered in a copletely different league than ALL the others put together in the circuit. Even when pre-Wimbledon, the so-called pundits and greats were taking abt Roger's declining reign on the top and Rafa was asked whether Roger is more vulnerable now that ever before, he had this to say... "Yes, a lot. He didn't lose a set on Halle. 59 matches without loss. C'mon." Now if THAT is anywhere even NEAR to be loud mouth according to Mr Rahul Prasad, he surely needs to brush up his comprehension skills!!

Fedex vs Rafa..... wow!!!
by Narendra Bhat on Jul 05, 2008 07:12 AM  | Hide replies

Not gonna miss this for anything... a dream final. The King vs the challenger. Rafa's recent form has made him a very serious challenger to Fedex. Should Rafa win it, I guess, it would have all the ingredients of a pot-boiler. But on the other side would be the King himself who has been there & done that. And after the French Open finals, a very very wounded King thirsting for revenge. I would put this 2008 final showdown along with the very best like Borg-McEnroe (1980, 1981) & McEnroe-Connors (I think, 1983). And no, I don't have any favourites & I would not like to see any one of them lose..........
