Anand's success

Here is a silent hero for India. The best in the World but not recognised as well as Sachin or Leander. Pathetic sports scene in India. Hope it improves.

That is quite natural. Chess champions are not treated like pop stars in most part of the world. Physical games like tennis and soccer(in india, cricket instead) are far more popular than the mind game and the heros has got more mass appeal. I guess in India Anand does get reasonable recognition considering the sport(?) he plays and general attitude towards sports other than cricket.

Having said that, nothing to take away from Anand - he is a true champion and inspired a generation of chess players in India.
