Its one thing to provide "motivation" and altogether different thing to criticize. What we express out here is NOT going to be read by her to gather any sort of "motivation" and there's absolutely no point pouring over your motivational "best wishes" in a forum like this, hoping that will improve Sania's performance. This forum is purely meant for readers' comments and hence I am gonna be very critical of her. While, from a mediocre Indian standards viewpoint,Sania might have achieved 'great heights', globally, her Tennis achievements are still below par.Reaching the 29th ranking is no good if you haven't won a single Tourney in the 1st tier. All her victories have been in tier-2&3 matches. She has won more crowd support for 2 reasons : a)sexy looks (all readers know this and I dont need to elaborate) b)She's by far the best India has produced and therefore a country with 1/7th the world population had adopted her as their icon to massage their egos!Media does its bit to sensationalize such feats, too! Net-net, sania is more hype than substance and as typical of the Indians,we gloat over things we aspire for by living in fantasies and Sania is one such!

u talk abt her bein in 30's... but even leander paes din't go beyond 60's in singles.... it's just becoz of this gender biased society where u can't accept a succesful woman doing manly jobs...

sir have u heard of a player called "Nirupama Vaidyanathan" . if u have then it is fine. but to ur information she was the first indian woman to reach the third round of any grand slam. did the media report it????? what do u say of this?????
RE:too much hype!
by Antistupidity on Feb 21, 2008 11:19 PM
Kannan, Your facts are wrong. She only won one first round match in a grand slam, and yes the media did report it.
However beyond that she did not do much at all, and faded away. Yes, she was the first Indian Woman to win a grand slam first round match and in that sense a pioneer. But Sania Mirza has way more talent and achievements than Nirupama Vaidyanathan (married and became Nirupama Sanjeev) and that is something no-one can deny.
I get your point that she needs to improve parts of her game and fitness to go beyond 29, but please do not bring a comparison to Nirupama because there isn't any.

sir i never told that what she has achieved is small.there is no bias of any nature . it is plain simple fact. paes did concentrate on doubles rather than on singles.but the fact remains that the overall game has not improved such that she can make it into the top 20.

who ever brought in "gender bias",ramen?guess its in Ur retrograde mind that whenever someone critizes a star to your liking, you have to revolt with your irrational and irrelevant arguements!so typical of the hero/heroin worshipping Indian mindset! bringing in fanatism of all sorts - religion, region, gender, caste etc.Grow up in life!

i do agree with you sir. one more thing i wnat to add to that is after being on the WTA tour for over 2 years now i have not seen any marked improvement in her game. serve is the same "pathetic". movement on the court has improved by may be 30%. fitness has improved by 15%( don't ask how i got the numbers. this is my perception)that is all. i am not saying that to get to world no: 29 is easy, but to move one place above it requires much more effort that what she has put in right now. please improve sania or else u will be perinially languishing around the 30's,40's etc in the world rankings
Actually we dont want this errogant lady any more to play for india. She can easily abuse our national flag and dont appologize but she can appologize easily to maulvi in hyderabad.

captain sparrow .hell with ur views.there are lots of serious issues to take up. go raise these issues, every hour 1 women is raped in India , 1 person is murdered , 1 women is killed for dowry, 1 armed personal is killed in polotical games in saving the nation ,many armed personals are languishing in PAK jails . GO RAISE THESE ISSUES IF YOU HAVE GUTS. GO CAPTAIN GO.

HAven't you heard the latest some politician were also shown with their feet over a budhha photo/statue not sure. Poor guys they got shock of their life to know that there was a buddha hiding there. The best think is to sue the guy for harressement to sania and for abusing the national flag by using camera tricks. Sania could do it but it might waste her time
I see so much criticism for everything, everyone by rediff people, I dont understand. But I am not a fan of Sania but I know what it takes to play in grandslams, even to qualify. So its unfortunate that she has to withdraw but people at rediff must get a life.

I guess you are the who is barking in here. I request you to shut ur ass!
Don't you get better news then Sania opting out? India is bored of this lady who thinks too much of herself. It is better for her to be in injured list for long and not playing any matches.
who give a damn ! she refused to play 4 india ! now she is totally useless , anyway she never ever can win single grand slam.she is less than average player. It's all media hype and hoopla !!
RE:who cares !!
by Rahul Pathak on Feb 20, 2008 10:02 AM
