Bias majority rulin taken.
by Devin Aaron on Jan 02, 2009 12:59 AM

Majority of the sports federation don't hav to deal with this issue so obviously thy didn't mind rulin in favor of this new policy. So far, 2 sports fed. nd their players will be affctd nd they want a reconsideration. So ofcourse, the new policy will be put into effect if minority ar so few compared to majority who don't hav players w/o indian passport. Wht kind of ruling is this taken by sports min.

If the indian olympic association has no problem nd evn the sports fed. who hav alrdy allowd players of PIO nd OCI earlier, evn though sports min. ws aware of this. Why is the sports min. raising a issue nd finally puttin their foot down on the players now.

Its the sports min. responsibility to involve in this matter at an earlier stage so tht now the players who wud be affectd will not hav to represnt india in the beginnin itself. Sports min. shud hav been aware tht diffnt. sport federation have diff. rules, nd now they ar tryin to fix it nd applyin this policy for evry federation. Where wer ws the sports min. nd their policy in the beginning.

Why ar they involvin themselves now nd objectin to these players, whn they wer not doin it at an earlier stage.

Great Decision according to me

Ask these NRIs, which country they love more... and answer sureshot would be the coutry they were brought up in.. rather than India, so why give them privilege to represent our nation.
Lets look into fact that why are they playing for India, its just because they are not able to represent US/UK etc. so they are coming back... as you can clearly see that not one of them is in top 200, let alone medal winning prospect.
You guys say that India doesn't have infra to produce good sportsman, but still India has sportsman who had made nation proud, and all of them trained and practised in India only. In current batch, Abhinav Bindra, SAina Nehwal, Sania Mirza and countless others.
So why so much hue and cry for them not being allowed, if these guys are really passionate for country, why dunno they give up their green card and get Indian passport, all things dunno come in free and playing for great nation require some sacrifice.
In truth, these guys are not even commital and only cause problems in team, (Prakash Amritraj got not committed to team and lead a protest to remove Leander, the single man who brought most glory to Indian Tennis).

Monetary gifts givn by each state's govt. nd overall the govt. of india to the current olympic medalists is a waste. The taxpayers money is goin towards these athletes salary.

Why doesn't a sports managament compny includin all the sponsors pay for the athletes in terms of apparels nd also make deals w.them so tht they can earn their money tht way. Aftr all athletes life is not permanent nd a 9-5 job. So why the hell the indian govt. is givin monetary gifts to evn their own people.

Worse is sports min. hav allowed these guys earlier the rules ar nt explained to the athletes in a proper way nd sports fed. is not getting enough funds anyways to provide exclellntly for their own athletes also.

The primary reason can't be b.c of patriotism since this is sports nd only doin ones best to contribute fr the sport nd supporting other players thru their participation counts more thn anythin else.

The athletes who wnts to represnt india nd who givs up their citizenships in anthr country is no sacrifice, its jst a piece of paper nd rules to follow.

Now some athletes will be forcd to give up their citizenships nd thts not sacrifice, rathr its the incompetency on the part of the sports min. to established rules tht cudn't hav allowd these forein indian athletes to compete in the first place.

Bindra has been coached by a foreigner, nd so does sani mirza hav gone abroad to train jst a few times though.

Bhupathi strtd training in ole miss univrsity in u.s b.f he started competin. Leander also trains in u.s in florida.

The indian athletes i.e these hav been using foreign coaches nd facilities during their tenure as athletes, whthr its training there a few times or its consitent. Still these athletes ar in the top b.c they benefited more frm training facilities in abroad thn in india.

Bein in top 200 evn fr u guys is some accomplishmnt whn accordin to int. standards they ar nothing.

Jst b.c one player causes a problem ar not commited to the indian team, doesn't mean you hav to shut out future athletes.

The reason to represnt india is b.c of individual reasons nd tryin their best to contribute for a sport in india. Its not abt india, its abt the contribution to certain sports on their behalf.

The sports min nd govt. is approachin this issue as if these OCI's have done some illegal activity like using enhancin drugs nd bringin shame to the country. Also the govt. is complaining of nt assisting these players, as if they have assisted indian players at all.

The main reason fr this problm can't be b.c of provin love fr the country, nd to do tht you have to give up their citizenships, allegiance nd all that. This is jst a lame excuse fr not wanting to assist nd provide for the OCI's in terms of their facilites(as if they have alot) or in terms of money.

MS GILL please help Indian sports by allowing NRIs
by bhushan hegde on Dec 28, 2008 10:41 PM

India needs good results to promote sports & we need NRIs like Prakash Amritraj, Sunita Rao, Shikha Oberoi, etc to do so. Infact we should go allout & get NRIs like Micheal Chopra ( soccer ), Harpal Singh ( soccer ), Vijay Singh ( golf ), Shivnarine Chanderpaul ( cricket ), Ramnaresh Sarwan ( cricket ) & Neel Jani ( A1 motorsports ) to represent India.

Even England's Kevin Pietersen is half English but is a South African born. Mustafa El Hadji was French born but played for Morrocco where his parents came from. Most European. Deco was born in Brazil, but represents Portugal. If other countries do it then why not India.

The only way to match China in sports is to get maximum NRIs to represent India since they are exposed to more modern training in advanced countries like USA, UK, etc

Sports Swades - sports unites people so this is wrong
by Devdutt Nayak on Dec 28, 2008 02:46 PM

besides, if it were not for NRIs India would not have made so much progress in IT and business.
Many people at top positions have made many big mistakes in Business, Technology, Judiciary and Rural reform.
If you want to make constructive use of the escapism of these sportsmen, you should make it mandatory for each one such sportsman to train, being a mentor to, at least 5 people from his sport who do not have the money to train themselves.
Each NRI sportsman who mints in US dollars / Euros, Pounds, must shape the career of 5 other Indians who cannot afford the costs of a good training.

NRI professionals could set up sports academies in return for a chance to play for India.
All this is needed because our Ministers still, after all this terrorism and corruption exposing business have not changed even 1%.
If we cannot clean up the system, take help from those who can circumvent these malfunctioning systems - get them to contribute in return for the "Indian team" brand if you so badly want to "punish" them (which is not at all healthy, btw)

This outright ban is a foolish thing. You're alienating the entire NRI population who is apparently willing to do something good for India.
If you want help in technology, why not in sports?
What's wrong with a sports version of Swades?

As if we are winning 100's of medals in international events.... If you impose ban and dont provide international training to our "citizens" then sorry to say but we will be no where...
