Diego- A great human being
by thomas on Dec 08, 2008 06:20 PM  | Hide replies

We have seen the soccer god.I can still recall the 1986 WC, the ball controll, the speed.I recall Diego would jump with the ball above the legs of defenders, who wanted to foul him...He could go past multiple players. When he came to Kolkata, I watched him in TV , I am surprised to see his simplicity-He would hug each and every, the common people, the local footballers....Such is the greatness.I cant think a Sachin hugging a budding club cricketer with so much ease.

You are right. I don't know whether he was a better footballer than Pele but he is definitely a better human being than Pele.

Soccer-The greatest game
by thomas on Dec 08, 2008 02:13 PM  | Hide replies

And the greatest player of this greatest game is Diego.I see many lazy sport loving people cant digest the fact that the greatest sportman landed in kolkata last weekend.Bengalis and Kolkata love Soccer most of all sports.Same the case with other places like Kerela and Goa-No harm in being crazy about the best sports of the world and its icons. After all it is better than following a game which is played in 10 odd countries of the world, and where most of the players play for personal records(atleast in India).

i know that, i know that Diego took cocaine. But these cant take away the skills that he displayed.Nor does cocaine enhance soccer skills.Thats why even after all these controversies, he is considered greatest. From Argentina to India, from Canada to Australia.

Mr Thomas,It is great that u love footbal and maradona.I am also one of the greatest fan of maradona. But that doesnt mean u start disparaging other game and its player. The game which is played in 10 odd countries has its own set of fans following and they also love their sports..And how come u accuse the players playing for their personal record which is not the case m(but sadly it seems that u doesnt follow the game). So u better enjoy football and dont make unnecessary comment about others game. These players are also representing our country and are doing well at that.People like u are spoiling sports in our country just by indulging in blame game.

Proverbial Skills?
by PuttIndies on Dec 08, 2008 12:15 PM  | Hide replies

What exactly does one mean by "proverbial skills"?? Which proverb are you referring to??
Completely inappropriate use of language.

Just stick to simple language and primary school grammar if you cannot come up with anything ingenious. Nobody expected a language dissertation here.

Proverbial here means, "widely known and spoken of." Hence, it is correctly used!

Viva Diego
by thomas on Dec 08, 2008 11:44 AM

People who are soccer crazy and passionate about it relish the ball control and skills above anything about the sport.Pele is a better all round player, but in terms of ball skill, dribbling, speed Maradona is the greatest, much above Pele and the rest.Pele never helped his team win tournaments single handedly-be it the 1958 Wc, where he played few matches or in 1962 where he left the tournament injured, with garincha leading Brazil to cup win. In 1970 pele played the full tournamet wit the Brazilian side, considered to be the best ever soccer side yet.So Pele never helped Brazil win a WC so much so like Diego who guided Argentina single handedly in 1986.And again made a third grade side Napoli to the top Europen side in Seria League, the most competative league of 1980-90s.And Maradona earned the name for Barcelona in early 1980s, to the name it is today.Diego is probably the only sportsman who have influenced a team sport singlehandedly, and thus is the most loved sportsman ever.Viva Diego.

If only it did not cost the govt tens of crores to get this God to visit us. I wonder how many square meals a day this money would have afforded to some of the starving people in parts of WB. If only the visit of this God do miracles to football in West Bengal ... if only the people in WB start asking this questions before the next election ....

Rakesh, at least we used this money to honour a great footballer, otherwise it would have used up in sponsoring foreign tours of our ministers.

No, it happens all over India but the problem is Kolkata behaves differently. For instance, if Ganguly is left from the national side they resort to unfair methods until Ganguly himself issues a public statement asking them to be calm. They are not able to take things sportively. I am from Tamilnadu and i can confidently say that we are not too obsessed with actors, cricket players and all that. We do have small groups in this part of the country that behave like Kolkata crowds but majority are least bothered about cricketers, actors, political leaders and all that.

Kolkata is the best place in India and kolkatans alone know how to appreciate sports and sports people. Maradona is the best human being in the world. Rajini and SPB are useless fellows and Chika does not know cricket. Thank you.

Gretaest Sport On Earth? Balls! Stop day - dreaming. The greatest sport on earth nowadays is Taking a Gun/ Bomb & mindlessly killing people - the higher the body - count, the greater the status of the hero(es).
