People who are soccer crazy and passionate about it relish the ball control and skills above anything about the sport.Pele is a better all round player, but in terms of ball skill,dribbling, speed Maradona is the greatest, much above Pele and the rest.Pele never helped his team win tournaments single handedly-be it the 1958 Wc, where he played few matches or in 1962 where he left the tournament injured, with garincha leading Brazil to cup win. In 1970 pele played the full tournamet wit the Brazilian side, considered to be the best ever soccer side yet.So Pele never helped Brazil win a WC so much so like Diego who guided Argentina single handedly in 1986.And again made a third grade side Napoli to the top Europen side in Seria League,the most competative league of 1980-90s.And Maradona earned the name for Barcelona in early 1980s, to the name it is today.Diego is probably the only sportsman who have influenced a team sport singlehandedly, and thus is the most loved sportsman ever.Viva Diego.
I grew up watching Maradona and winning Mexico WC 1986. He is a great leader and with his inclusion Argentina is a different team altogether. Jersey No. 10 became famous due to him.
The younger generation think Maradona is the greatest. I have seen both of them. I have seen the movie GOAL (because there was no live TV coverage in many parts of the wold at that time) showing the 1958 World Cup in Sweden and wathed him in susequent world cups 1962 Chile, 1966 England (he was critically fouled by the Hungarians) and made a great comeback 1970 Mexico.In the last few years since the DVD revolution has hot the masses was able to see many of his exploits more and more and I am able to say Maradona is far behind Pele. Pele was much faster he could out jump any body any taller guy where as Maradona had to use the HANDS to outsmart the English goalkeeper. Yes Maradona is the next best,I don't have any hatred against him either. If you put this matter on internet for voting Maradona will win because my age or older rarely use the computer.

The Games defence, attack and strategies changed a lot since Pele. Maradona is no doubt the greatest. Pele comes second. Maradona single handedly took Napoli to number one club. He would have got the Italia 90 cup too if the sole goal by germany courtesy wrong foul judged was not offered. Pele was playing along with other great players of his era in Brazil team. Maradona single handedly (pun intended) won 86. Oppostion have been targetting Maradona as rest of Argentine team was not so efficient as Pele's Brazil.. Let alone his hand of God but the second goal produced duping the likes of greatest German defence is regarded as the best goal ever. Pele was a great entertainer than Maradona. Maradona was sheer talent. Speed wise too Maradona was quicker.

I meant England Defence for 86 victory....Above all .. this young old generation argument is hogwash..Pele and Maradona had a 20 years and 7 days to be precise.. ..Why havent we seen any other player than Pele and Maradona being discussed in same level. though there have been great players after maradona since 22 year have past his worldcup winning game, we havent seen any player coming close. So all this younger vs old generation comparison is hogwash. Maradona is the greatest and this debate has been put to rest. maradona...FIFA greatest footballer of the century - 2000, FIFA goal of the century - 2002.
