Challenges are identifying talented early, providing them scholarships(most comes from poor background), education (hindi, english, math, social, science) and training. It should be modelled as a sports school cum college.
Politicians will cry for reservation here also. Why dont they ask International Olympic Ass for Quota in medals for backward people . Indian can easily win half of medals.

Our politicians are not that fool..they demand such things only if considerable vote bank is invloved! However they will start demanding reservation for SC/ST,minorities soon in participating Indian sports team abroad!this will give downtrodden class to boost their moral and abroad trip will make them feel equal!
That's a brilliant idea... IISp ( Indian institute of Sports) should be open and there will be an exam which need to be conducted atleast twice an year and teachers will be some prominent sports person and Militry officers. they will learn on how to be best in sports . they can have some guest lectures from Best Athletes from world.. And of cource it will be governed as Autonomus body not governed by Foolish Politicians.. And finally they can be posted in police or militry or BSF as their Placements..
"May GOD" bless all those serving in our military forces, who risk their lives in order to preserve and defend the God-given rights of all "that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness" which we may exercise freely as citizens of a truly great nation...
We thank you for your dedication, courage and protecting our FREEDOM.

Now few here started fighting on the name itself. Come out of your cocoons man, there is a lot more than the name. Its the way we think shapes our attitude, which is the root of all mess happening now.
Hello, IIT is bad idea. Its better to have NIFT for Sports. Students will go to US ( after giving something like GRE and writing false SOPs) and finally win few gold for US. 51% reservation may be problem. All sportmen will test positive for THC and for more ! IITs are usually very green.
Re: IIT for sports ? let it be NIFT

LOL ... most sports persons will have a better chance representing India ... in US, they would be nobody and may not even get a chance to represent.
I agree with Girish Rishi at his views on indian sports. surely, we need IITs in sports. we got have high standards in skills , technics. we should have vision for next 10 to 15 years. So after 10 to 15 years , we will have high quality players to compete at world level.we need proper infrastructure. we need one big budgetfor sports. we should not have corruption at any level. we need 100% commitment from everybody from grassroot level to top level. we got to encourage the olympic games and sports. I think the government has to take the initiatives. The govt. has to encourage sports at school level. If u look at top 5 finishers at olympic games, they have the best sports budgets respectively and got the best infrastructure.
We have to act unitedly to make our country one of the best sporting greats at top level.
We need to analyse why Milkha Singh became folk lore desepite not being a winner where as Kashabha Jadhav vanished from public memmory. One reason was we despirately lack athletic heros and another was that in the days of Punjab problem he was time and again projected as national Hero and chapters included in NCERT books on flying Sikh and thus folklore was created.
This does not belittle acheivement of great Milkha Singh in any way.

Are Batao na, khud error karte ho fir doosron pe ungli uthate Ho ?
Internet pe ho, usko use karo aur Milkha sing ka profile Wikipedia pe dekho, he finished 4th, and some 24 years before PT Usha did. 2. Another Indian medal winner you have forgotten, Norman Pritchard- go look him up too. And Milkha Sing was projected in the 60's and not in the 80's ( when the Punjab problem happened. Thoda Home work karo, specially before criticising.

And he won Gold medals in 1958 and 1962 Asian Games too- ( 2 in 58 and 1 in 62) which might be a reason he was famous, else if only Olympics medal is the criteria for fame then PT Usha's is also not quite justified. And his national record in 400 metres set at the olympics was broken only in this millenium- some 40 years after the record was set.
