Hard working people succeed in life !
by cajetan coelho on Sep 07, 2008 10:03 PM

We need to prepare well if we are to be organizers of world events. Our athletes and sportspersons need to be provided with state-of-the-art-infrastructure, training and incentives to work hard and bring laurels to our country. Half-hearted measures will not take us anywhere. Best wishes to our event organizers and sports associations. Success is sure to come.

Dr. Cajetan Coelho

...for the morons that simply don't get it. The Chinese are a hard working race. And by hard working, I mean really hard-working. And to top that, they've almost rooted out corruption - they award death panalty for corruption - that's how serious it is for them. Can anyone here imagine what percent of the population of India would be wiped out if that standard was applied to Indian Govt and public services in India? We would all be saying "good riddance". It doesn't end there - they don't waste time on religion, they spend that time on hard-work. What's more? You can't have more than one child in China without being penalized for it. So for all those dreamers that think India can do this or that by 2020 or 2032, do you get that into your thick skulls? It'll take us 200 years and leaders with balls to change India. To be honest, I doubt it will ever happen. The only edge we "ever had" over China is that the British occupied us for many years and we picked up some English along the way thanks to the schools that they set up (yes, to this day the best schools are the mission schools - face it, 80% of IITians attended mission schools) - yet, we haven't been able to exploit the English edge. We think we are developed, but if the Chinese knew half as much English we did, they'd probably eat into our share of the much touted 'economical development' we think we are experiencing. The fact is, we were morons to kick the British out. The Gandhis and Nehrus and many leaders of those day

If you still can't see it, pick up the book "My Experiments with Truth" by M. K. Gandhi and you'll see for yourself that man you so revere to be a Mahatma and father of the nation was actually a dick-head (just going by the way he treated his wife and kids). Vande Matram. by kamal kamboj on Aug 25, 2008 02:03 PM  | Hide replies

Bindra has won gold medal. cost Rs. 10 crores on training n coaching. He can afford bcoz he has v. rich backround.
I would like to draw attention of our corporate sector that pl. adopt a game with them so that we may train hire good coach for coaching. I would like to request Mittals Reliance both, Tata, Infosys. Bharti Tel. Wipro, Dlf, Kingfisher,Zee tele.and bolly wood star like SRK,Pretty zinta to adopt a game n give traing to the boys n girl at the v. early age. U hv ability to spend money on it. Indian corporate has the capability of hiring coach like Bekham, Ronaldo and other athelics coach in the world.Ther should be a compition between the corporate to get medals all around the world for their adopted game. And i am sure if we star today we will will at least 15 gold in the next olympic. Our players hv zeal to do but ... again its a big question mark.
I would like to request to Rediff to convey this to the corporate to begin the things.
Vande Matram. Jai Hind.

India can't win anything unless our great
by jino v on Aug 25, 2008 12:04 PM  | Hide replies

Our leaders are so proud of their achievement of one gold and two bronze and they are satisfied. All the people were praising and pouring the promises of rewards on those 3 people. If the same amount of money had invested in sports(in real sense. Not eating the money allowed) there would have been so many winners. We can see politics mafia in sports. There are so many storts people who are unable to go for different competition just because they have no money for travel and stay. Our sports bodies are not bothered about that. Rememeber that if abhinav Bindra was not rich enough, he could not have such a shooting range to practice

abhinav bindra yesterday(24th- aug-08) in a NTDV special interview at 10.30 pm intimated that presently he will be relaxing for the next few months, & also said that he is not certain when he will again commence practising, as his father is insisting him to assist him in his business, which he has spread a lot & looking to senior bindra's age he needs his son's presence, also he said that his mother & elder sister are pressing him for marriage- certainly today he is india's most famous eligible batchelor.it appears bindra has decided to quit the scene, & looking to rathore's fate i think it is a wise decision by the bindra's, as we indians always expect the maximum from our heroes. we should realise that after all he is also a human being & may fail on a particular day. bindra very rightly said on winning the gold medal that this was his day, thats why he won it maybe someone else's day tomorrow, that is the difference between winning & losing.

"thats why he won it maybe someone else's day tomorrow, that is the difference between winning & losing"

Do not trivialize his humble statement. Surely "somebody"
could not have won gold in olympics. It could not have been more than top 4 or 5 of the 70 participants of
the shooting events.

If bindra decides to quit thats his wish. But leveraging the interest that has been generated by
his gold is a National Duty to which every Indian, most importantly Govt, is bound to.

Is it that South Asians are not structurally fit to be in Sports
by Mohammed imran on Aug 25, 2008 11:07 AM  | Hide replies

Looks like sports at the higest levels requires the highest stantards of physicall fitness and the scope for error is marginal.
If you see the atletics events it was the negro breed that won all the medals irespective of the nation they represented. This makes me feel that they are physically suited to such games.
If you see gymnastics , TT, Shuttle, diving which require quick reflexes most of the medals went to the chineese the koreans and jappanese or in other words the mangloids!
power Games like violleball , basket ball , tennis , Hockey , etc went to mostly the whites apart from swimming and other power sports !
Does it mean that we should focus more of Shooting and similar games where we physical excertion is not quite high!

Any one who puts effort can beat anyone in the world at anything. History has proved this many times , so this notion that some fellows are better at something are just excuses for not putting enough effort.Ofcouse you cannot be a gold champion if you don't have the money to train and the will to win

In 1952 Olympic Games at Helsinki, the Chinese contingent returned empty handed; without a medal.
The did not participate an the Olympic Games until 1984 at LA, where they won 8 Gold Medals. They have been improving their tally ever since, and nopw, they are on Top of the world.
Can we learn something from them?

I'd like to talk more accurately about this.
When the 1952 Helsinki Olympics was coming, International Olympic Committee still made no decision on who to represent China: the newly-born People's Republic of China(PRC) or Republic of China in Taiwan? It is one day before the opening ceremony that PRC received IOC invitation(Taiwan not invited). When the Chinese team arrived in Finland, the Games was coming to the end,and so China participated in only one event in men's swimming. No medal of course.
PRC then made a lot of preparation for the 1956 Games in Melborne and the possibility of winning several medals existed. However, one incident took place shortly before its opening.IOC decided that both PRC and Taiwan could participate, which was strongly denounced by PRC who asserted that it was the only legal representative of the whole Chinese people. So China withdrew from the Olympics until IOC decided in 1979 that PRC should represent China and Taiwan should participate in the name of "Chinese Taipei".Then China appeared in 1980 Winter Games and 1984 Summer Games(1980 Moscow was boycotted) .

surely they have not avoidede the games for 32 years for improvement . as you wrongly guess. They werenot un UNO , because they want to remove Taiwan from UNO as a condition to join the UNO and at that tie they were aginst USA, Europe, India, Russia and only after the expulsion of Taiwan from UNO and they joined UNO and they got a oplace in Security council , they joined Olympis. So it was political resaons for them not to join olympics, certainly not for the sake of improvement of their performane in the games. Of course they developed from poverty to highere level and natuarlly also in theier performance in Olympics.

China is a dictatotrial regime which can do anything to show its might even if at the cost of well being of its people. India is a democracy and here the same is not possible. We can never be like China whether good or bad simp-ly becuase our history and culture is diametrically opposite. we are individualists and they are a group society. If u look around the world Indians are going great guns in all fields be it art or business. Silicon Valley , Wall Street and other global hotspots are testimony to that. Let us be proud of the capabilities ou us Indians and try and strenghten what we got instead of apeing a country which is entirely different in terms of everything.

Indian media persons interviewed Usain Bolt after his world record performances.
Instead of asking questions like how did you achieved this, etc they were asking stupid questions like who is your favourite crickets, do you know Sachin Tendulkar etc (Just because Bolt is from Jamaica, our reporters were asking non sense questions).

That's the problem...the cricket disease is being spread from the media. If the media is so smitten by cricket, one can only imagine today's gullible youth. Its like opium. It renders us useless suckers giving away millions to those 11 useless 'MIB' gang-bangers, while hard-working Olympians toil and earn medals to put our country in the top 50 with no prize money - just national pride at stake. The sooner cricket is banned and the Modis, Pawars, Khans, Ambanis and Mallyas are sent to prison for crimes against gullible Indian citizens, the better.

the next day the indian newspapers flashed in their games page "usain bolt is a sachin fan", whereas actually he had said nothing of that sort, only when asked whether he had interest in cricket, & receiving an affirmative reply, he was queried regarding sachin.there are many games reporter on sachin's payroll, one of them is a mr naidu who belongs to my hometown nagpur, who is always indulging in keeping sachin in the limelight. the day bindra got india's gold medal, sachin, still in srilanka announced that he would not be available for the ODI's, because of his elbow injury, sustained while fielding.he had thought that entire india will be perturbed by his absence, instead the indian team is doing better in his absence,& leading 2-1 at the moment. his presence in the side, & his ego leads to problems for the captain & others, & disturbs the harmony in the team.
