Getting medals is a complex function of many factors such as per capita GDP,the total population, integrity (honesty) index and history of excellence. Do we deserve even the three medals by these yardsticks? THe three have won defying the system, but at a macro level, these wins reflect the emerging prosperity.

I think the theory of relativity when applied inversely proportional with gravitational constant will result in Heisenberg's uncertainity principle. Don't forget that function.
Let us put the "Cricket vs other sports" discussion aside. Hockey in the sub continent is DEAD. We have put up our BEST show ever in the Olympics, and yet are ranked 50th ! Even a country like KENYA is 15th ! Do let us take a leaf out of China and aim for a top 20 finish in London....

Stop dreaming. China started planning for this moment in 1980's and you think what China took over 20 years to achieve we can do in 4 years. The best we could do in London Olympics is to better this result and by 2020 we should aim for Top 20 finish. Daydreaming is not going to take us anywhere. It needs proper planning, resource allocation and utilization and dedication on the part of players, trainers and administration. We don't loose in Olympics because we lack quality players. We loose because we as a country have no interest in Olympics and Olympic medals.

ahha good one... so by that logic jamaican must really be good running away from things... and americans must be very strong swimming away from things

shooting requires concentration more , wrestling requires tactics more than strength, boxing requires guts, is practised in defence.

Maybe they should shoot or box or wrestle out the sports administrators who are responsible for this rot and underdevelopment of the sports in India. Its time for a change
we kp cmparing crkct wd othr spts al d time. Its nt bd at al to appreciate crkt & fct tht millions of indian play d game, irspctiv of any region, caste or society.
Thogh its tru tht othr sprts hf bn nglctd in d country, bt d reson 4 tht is not crickt or d crikt plyrs.
Its d rspctiv sports gvrning bodies. 2day BCCI is world's richest sports governing body.even bigger than PGI tour, ATP or evn mny premiership clubs including FIFA!.i think 1 should applaud tht also. Its the smart work of bcci officials. however corrupt bearaucrats they are, how much red tapism, money mis handling has hapnd, but then.in which authority of 2day, thre is no corruption? end of the day, BCCI has made d game as well as India popular!
as far as olympics r concerned, we alwez talk abt hockey. Olympics is a different ballgame, and authorities shd undrstnd tht. imagine d expenditure on training and sending 16 players to win 1 gold!! in same expenses, one can train atleast 5-7 quality boxers, wrestlers, swimmers, gymnasts, athletes, weightlifters.. olympics is not jst abt wining a medal, its abt NUMBER OF MEDALS. The more participants v hf, higher d probability to win medals.
look at china or US..they enter in almost every event with more than 3 4 players, tht surely increases medal prospects. Case in point: Boxing. we had 3 boxers reaching QTRs, imagine if there ws only akhil :-) wat wudve hapend! hence IOC really need to put some brains to improve there strategy to win more medals!

Mate may be you are ill-informed bust just to let you know that ,the numbers of players particilatig in the event depends upon, if the beat the qualifying requirements or not, it is not a choice of any country, organisation. :-)
