Jai Hind 4 x 400 girls.
by Gerard Sammah on Aug 23, 2008 08:52 PM

The Indian women at the Olympics did their very best under the circumstances. All things considered, I am proud of them. If some people in India don't appreciate and love these daughters of Bharat who try so hard against the odds, then I for one ( who was not born in India and has never been privilleged to visit India ) will always praise and honour them and all India athletes in all sports. JAI HIND to the 4 x 400 women's relay team of India.

i find india's campaign so funny. I can understand why we (Sri Lanka) don't get any medals, we have a war against the hindus and we are winning !!!!. But India with a billion population can oly 2 medals. China (Sri Lanka's friend) got so many medals. I love China for showing India that it is a crap country.

1 gold for a Billion people!!!
by Prakash Ponnuchamy on Aug 22, 2008 08:46 PM

We should not criticize any who have participated; we should appreciate them for participating instead of playing cricket. It is a shame we have just got 1 gold for a country of 1 billion people. I do not understand when our sports minister is going to promote sports other than cricket in our country. The Indian People who participate in all this competitions look so week compared to some one from Germany or Cuba, I do not think Indian athletes have the strength to complete in an event like this. They may be having the talent but unless and until we promote the sport in our country we will beaten repeatedly by some country like Trinidad and Tobago, which has a population of about 1 million.

They need support
by ag on Aug 22, 2008 08:04 PM  | Hide replies

It is easy to critisize them for their performance, but most of our track & field stars come from very modest backgrounds and can't afford facilities like for example Abhinav Bindra (though i'm not belittling his great achievement). They are completely dependent on the govt. Moreover even if they win golds and awards, Athletics is not a glamorous & lucrative sport in India which will help them transform fame into better financial status. Even in Tennis, somebody who looks good like Sania can bag endorsements not less glamorous people like Nirupama Vaidyanathan maybe despite being the harbinger of Indian Women Tennis revolution. More people like Mittal and ofcourse the general people like us should support them in their endeavors!

Typical indian village idiot who jumps to conclusion too fast. Historically we had women from Rani Laxmibhai...Saorijini Naidu...Capt. Laxmi(Subhash Chandra's Army)....Indira Gandhi...Dr.Indira Hinduja( pioneer 1st test tube baby of india).....Sumati Morarjee (President World Shipping Federation)...... Kalpana Chawla..... list goes on. Hope you learnt something. Does not have any general knowledge and then posts a poor judgement analysis. Go inside the kitchen and wash vessel wearing lungi, don't post non sense have some respect for someone who is mother, sister or daughter of someone.

I respect all the women you've mentioned except Indira Gandhi. This Nehru dynasty has destroyed this India and made people as slaved to them!

IN Sydney it was only Karnam Malleshwari who got the medal ... for around 8 years P.T. Usha and Ashwini Nachappa were our best bet ...
Yes they do concentrate more on family and kitchen and I do wonder for how many this is by choice and for how many this is a fate coz of our social environment ...

if you look at their timings, the national record is 3:26 which is lower than the top 8 qualifying times. So only the presence of a mercurial athlete like PT Usha could have taken us to the finals. Their performance was the ebst among Asian countries, so we have hope for an Asian Gold Medal in future.
