olympic performance and cricket craze
by Guest on Aug 22, 2008 02:49 PM

The atheletic yardship is in the performance at the olympics and not excelling in the cricket world . we are cutting sorry figure at olympics and ashamed of the performance and Govt is not encouraging the actual sports which are being played in olympics . we have made cricketers as Gods and this game has become just business and the cricketers are just kubers of India having godly status . Besides this this cricket game is legacy of the British Raj and we have been following the trend as true slave of the Britishers little knowing how much harm it has done to the country . You will see there is no cricket in Japan , USA, Russia , china , germany, France and they have excelled in all aspects of development . The so called great cricket game is too extensive , time consuming and wastage of manpower in the office . In the office there is so much craze that many people wants to know the score leaving important official work even they do not know how score run is made . Besides this there is bidding and satta bazar going on for the win and loss of cricket games being played anywhere in india . It is too much pathetic We have just become crazy for cricket and our legilature are just following the people because they have to appease people and get the votes . According to me cricket is just hampering the progress of the nation by squeezing the precious manpower either in govt organisation or the private sector . Why do not we promote game like tennis , wrestling , gymnastics , ho

I agree that Mr Suresh Kalmadi should resign! People keep complaining that Cricket gets too much money and attention... The govt does not give anything. The reason is that BCCI an autonomous body and so is able to raise its own funds and bring up the infrastructure in the lower levels. Why should that not happen to atheletics and other sports.. If Cricket now needs 20/20 to keep the interest going, I am sure quality performances in any sport will do the trick.. It is very easy to criticize our Olyimpians for failing (I am very disappointed at the language used by the sports journalists to describe their failures!!) But did we think of them in the last 4 years? We think of them only they land in the Olympics after so many Years of hardwork and struggle.. We did not spend lakhs on them. We don't deserve to criticize them! If we still want to ask questions, ask our cricketers...

but why should we bother about olympic medals.. let's all just watch cricket and have a nice time.. olympic medals are too much hard work, and not worth all that effort.

Arpit:

a. Singapore has won just ONE silver
b. Singapore is NOT a small country. It is a major economic superpower.
c. Winning medals has NOTHING to do with the population of the country. If at all, higher population without the real support infrastructure, actually pull us back in anything that we attempt to do - including winning medals at Olympics.

So once again, it isn't funny. Your question stands without merit.

that there is world class talent in our country, and your victory will enthuse more people to try out sports, albeit within their limited means, until enough facilities and avenues for sports lovers are setup (either by corporates or government agencies)

WE ARE PROUD OF YOU SUSIL. THINK OF THE POOR FATHER WHO WAS PROVIDING SUSIL FOUR LITRES OF MILK DAILY BY BORROWING MONEY ON INTEREST!

A GREAT FATHER WHO BROUGHT A GLORY TO THE NATION WITH HIS DEDICATION, DETERMINATION AND AFECTION TOWARDS HIS SON, SUSIL'S FATHER SHOULD BE AWARDED WITH "DRONACHARYA AWARD" BECAUSE HE IS THE REAL GURU OF INSPARATION OF SUSIL. A GREAT AND PERFECT FATHER, I SALUTE SUSIL'S FATHER AND MOTHER.

A Bolt from the blue!!!
by manikantan k on Aug 21, 2008 06:59 AM

this was a very surprising news...I turned on the TV for seeing Jitender's bout and I saw that Sushil Kumar had won a medal...
I'm sorry I did not know the rules and so after sushil lost the match to Andriy Stadnik I switched off the TV only to be proven wrong by a strange rule.
Anyways, Congrats Sushil Kumar U made us proud !!!! Now we have a true blue wrestling champion and not a Fake champion (Khali) created by WWE. Congrats once again for ur achievement.
