is not bad at all, even though we would've loved a podium finish. But this shows that Indian boxers are capable of big finishes. As the interest in the sport increases, so will the determination of the boxers. I am sure some corporates will now seriously start looking at sponsoring some of the boxers as they have performed consistently. Best wishes for the future.

If Akhil would have drank Maltova before his bout he would have defeated the guy from Moldova

Akhil's defeat
by rajesh shanker rao on Aug 19, 2008 12:47 PM

In this bout the better one Won.Akhil was more like a street fighter than a boxer. His opponenet was more tactical ,with good boxing stance and defensive postures.Akhil's overconfidence was the minus point.Still i feel he progressed well.Good wishes in future competitions

Well done to get this far

Dear Akhil Kumar,

It was heart breaking to see you loose. However, we take note of your achievements to get this far by beating two champions enroute to the quarter finals. Its always disappointing to see you miss the medal by a whisker.
Knowing Akhil, he must be heart broken. Remember, the nation is proud of you and your achievements, coming from a humble background and limited facilities to train.

The Nation salutes you - brave young man.
