You have done well Narang

I think we have a habit of rubbishing everything in India. Let us not do that. The Shooters, boxers, archers, badminton, tennis, table tennis all have done well by competing at the highest level without disgrace. Atheletes and swimmers have been let down but we must also feel for their miserable state of shock when competing with others at a different level. Our sports interest is once every 4 years with very less infrastructure while China has shown interest in their sports stars each day of last 4 years. We citizens have to improve and contribute. We have to ask ourselves what sports we have contributed. I salute father of Bindra, the great man who provided Bindra with a private shooting range. He is no less than Gandhiji to me.

Well Cuba, North Korea and Zimbabwe have more medals than India.... do you think they have great infrastructure???

In India a national level sportsman gets resservation in govt jobs and also some money when they win.

Its actually the attitude of our people that keeps us down. We either criticize or just laze

apart from bindra all the shooters who were on show at beijing, behaved like tourist, coming 22nd/35th etc out of 40 shooters.similarly the athletics squad also has a bunch of also rans, like gowda, mandeep kaur, the 2 discuss throw female athletes, the 3 female hepthalon participants, then the 3 swimmers khade, poseria, pooncha, all failing to qualify by a large margin, infact coming last in their events, & making india look a laughing stock.i presume that the reason why such a big contingent is sent is that since there are different sports federations/organisations, like atheletics, badminton, swimmimg, shooting, tennis, table tennis, boxing etc all headed by politicians thus by sending even one participant the head of that particular federation along with his family gets a chance to go to the venue of the olympics at the tax payers cost & go & do shopping & sightseeing. this is called modern day nationalism.india should learn from china, as how to inculcate nationalism, & discipline.their participants are getting medals that too mostly gold, & mind you china participated in the modern era olympics for the first time in los angeles 1984.here independent india after 61 years of participation,is nowhere except for our valiant boxers & bindra(shooting). the boxing trio of akhil, jitendra & vrijendra deserve maximum adulations for excelling in a sport which involves physical contact from which we indians till now where shying away from.

Roy:

First read the article, THEN comment like a tourist....

To me your totally uncalled for comments sound as if they are coming from an ignorant guy..... not the performance of Narang (who scored his personal best, if you have some capacity to read)...

India should certainly learn from China... the first thing is to ban internet which puts useless jobless taskless arm chair experts like you to pass their time commenting as if they were Hu Jintao...

:-)

dont forget saina newaal, she also put up unexpected fight against some of the world's best and she deserves a praise also...1 billion people now putting fingers crossed on 3 boxers, if atleast 1 of them earn one medal it would be 2 medals from a single olympic as the bigget achievement for india so far after the Norman Prichard won 2 in 1900 Paris olympic...

I was watching it live, and he just lost it in the first two rounds of the kneeling competition - 93 and 94 on his first two attempts. Kudos to the CHinese shooter who was behind points on Gagan, but went on to win the gold.
