Whether Suresh Kalmadi is the only Manager India can produce? We have been hearing this name over decades. What has he done?
Like BCCI is with Pawar.Yesterday Dhoni said that the procession from Airport to Wankhede stadium, when the Twenty20 Team returned, is the most wonderful memory he has. Not after reaching Wankhede stadium. After that moment, it was a NCP function, Heroes could not be seen even.
Abhinav Bhindra is an example of Indian success in Sports without the help of Government chamchas as sports managers.

It wouldnt need a genius to tell that Bolt was not racing under "normal" conditions. 100m is no longer the event to watch for.

Sir,playing is different and winning medals is different.
we are playing, our children will also play but we don't have the technique and that level ,when we can win medals at such sport event..that's what everybody is talking that we are not winning having a population of this much..correct bhai..if some body hace calibre, every body from our country through him to chaina to win it..so,there is definetly the need to develop the skill and ability of our sports man to win medals for our country...please don't tell that u go and win...i know.u and me cann't

Congratulations to Usain Bolt - the fastest and fantastic man on the planet on winning the 100 M in such style. If he had not slowed a wee bit, his world record would have become that much more unbeatable, considering even one hundredth of a second becomes so decisive in world sports! Also, hats off to him for his dedication and determination. Not easy to put up such a grand performance when resources to train are so limited! God Bless!

Couldn't agree any more. It was a treat to watch his attitude, his dance, his moves, he was ecstatic and had that aura. He knew he had come to win .. come what may .. and he did just that.
Great show Usain, I am your big fan now !!

We should concentrate on academic olympiads.
by Jagadis Bose on Aug 17, 2008 09:14 AM  | Hide replies

Winning at the Olympics level needs huge amounts of investments (to the tune of crores of rupees per athletes) and bring in very little in return for the country (transient glory for the country and endorsement offers for the athlete). As a poor country the cost-benefit ratio for such investments is not great.
We should concentrate on Olympiad competitions in academic disciplines, such as mathematics, physics, biology etc. The Chinese rules the roost here too, but we will probably able to do better than the US if we try hard enough. It also has the benefit of popularising the hard sciences, and producing top rate scientists who later in their career will help to advance our nation. Also the cost of training participants is miniscule compared to the cost of training Olympic athletes.

mr sandeep, plz give ur views as to whether u agree or disagree with him.plz give ur arguments and enlighten him about certain facts which are pervy only to u..if u can convince him about why u feel the other way around u r a genius.ina country like India where taxpayers money is wasted by babus n their masters it sems logical to come up with newwer sports which help in long term future development ofkids n reduce the cost of training too...I agree with this aguy to a certain extent though i feel all sports should be given equal opportunity to grow..but on the other hand farmers suicides, bad roads, corruption worries me as to whether we should excel in sports or look for excellance in livelihood of poor people

You are partly correct in what you say.
An athlete will always cover the investment by endorsements though the money will not goto govt. which is good cuz govt will do nothing with it for the sport.
He is likely to invest the money in lifting up the sport, so more international endorsements, better brand image for the country, perhaps tourism, perhaps a major event like olympics in the future, and millions of dollars and economic prosperity.
So think of the big picture, other countries are not fools wasting their money on sports and olympics.
If you compare this with hundreds of scientists, as soon as they become populour they will goto US and serve america, and all efforts will go waste, atleast athletes are patriotic ;)

Your suggestion of world competitions in academic disciplines is welcome. I think the Nobel Prize should be decided on such a competition.
