with this kind of politicians and officials and for the kind of low encouragement given to such sports, this performance is too great.

Well done Gagan and Sanjeev
by Shiva on Aug 15, 2008 01:17 PM  | Hide replies

Look at his scores...98,98,99,96,99,99 and Sanjeev has 97,100,99,98,99,98
While the gold medalist has all 100s except one.
Shows how tough the competition is and how tough winning a medal in these events is.

Sensible headline needed
by AP on Aug 15, 2008 11:42 AM  | Hide replies

While the failure to qualify is disappointing, the headline "Gagan Narang flops again" seems a bit too personal. Better if Rediff gets rid of such biased attitudes. The author could have been less personal and put it like say, "Indian shooters fail to qualify".

Sensitive and to the point !

I agree with you AP. It does seem too personal.
It is not like our other atheletes are a huge success - why pick on Gagan Narang.

AP - you said it right. Today's media thinks 'freedom of the press' means one-sided bashing, whether it is an individual or whether it is the govt etc. Afterall a better 'healing' would give some consolation to our olympians (irrespective of their performance) who have made it to that grade. Winning or losing is immaterial participation is more important. They have done what we could not do - so cheers to the Indian Olympic contingent and just hope the 'decicion makers'wake-up to realities and provide the proper training and infrastructure facilities... London 2012 is not very far away.

Come on, this gentleman Mr.Gagan Narang tried his best shot, unfortunately there were better people in the fray.
A headline saying "Gagan Narang flops again" does not suit your jounalism.Shame on you guys. How abt try shooting and try to break Mr.Gagan Narang's record.Shame on your guys.

abe murali the great, it's bcoz of these guys we hav been performing below levels and not winning any medals for past so long now. These guys are sent there to compete but 35th, 40th position shows how focused they are. I think u can do better than these guys. Try! So if rediff is writing such articles then you don't have to be personal also. There is no point in sending all these ch##tiyas to olympics and spending money on them...

True, that they are ch####yas, because they spend money out of their own pockets and compete at the highest level.

They are fakirs because they don't know how they are going to manage their expenses but the passion to succeed at the highest level takes them there to the Olympics and the World Championships.

Dude, we can call them whatever we feel like but that doesn't reflect on the kind of hard work and passion they put into their job.

Scores of 589 and 591 out of 600 are fantastic, too bad that there are much better shooters around who crack a better score more often than not. I am sure that some day Gagan Narang and Sanjeev Rajput will create a niche for themselves and you and I will sing their praises still writing blogs.

Hume apni aukaad yaad rakhni chaahiye, bhale hi woh ch###tiye hon, lekin hamare desh k sabse badhiya shooters hain. As for sending them to the Olympics and spending...no, wasting as per you, the precious tax payers money is concerned I think millions of people like me will never have a problem seeing them try and maybe fail. I am an optimist and would advise you to be one as well.

No one goes to the Olympics to participate but to compete and believe me they hate to fail.

Happy Independence day.

It does not need one to be editors of news portals. Whatever murali said is right on humanitarian grounds. You must be pretty empty up there to make the above comment.

That is not the point. It is not our job to edit articles but to respond to the ones that are incorrectly written. We are rediff's customers and are trying to help it get better so that unfortunate statements like these aren't written again.

I agree with Murali. These people keep titles like Saina fial to qualify or bows out of Olympics.. But these titles do not reflect the Hardwork players done.

We fail to Olympics are.....its a place where you better your personal best or atleast equal it....thats what I call a champion....I don't care if you win a medal or not....However ...except for Abhinav Bindra....which of the Indian shooters have risen to the ocassion and done that.....We are not expecting from them to win medals or create new world records......but atleast match up to your own standards....what are you saving for....this is the biggest stage....I totally agree with the editor....Gaurav Narang has been in a failure this Olympics...not because he didnt win any medals...but becuase he didnt live up to his own standards....

Yeah buddy, but that just tells you that they were there and thereabouts. That is why they lost, when losers complain you say its an excuse and that's the way it is and shall always be.

That doesn't change the fact that whatever Gagan said is true.
