I bet his dad saw promise in him, otherwise even a rich dad in India would rather give money on business capital than spend on a sports coach.

from deepali u dont understand importance of that olympic medal for a country which has no sports history and sports culture. you must be aware you are not the first one to win maths olympiad and we have a great history in academics so an indian doing well in academics is no wonder .and for you did it cause it promised you better future. abhinav fought with system, societies negative mindset to defend his country at world level and came out winner. you didnt have courage to defend your country even in your office premises. that says it all why he deserves everything he is getting right now.

haha
this is real funny...i did not know indians are so low in IQ
when did i ever write that abhinav did anything less important...
he should be praised and encouraged...but not made a god to preach and stupid headlines that he had a bread or paneer shows that how useless the journalism is how used to indian people are to such BS...that they think it is not only normal but actually good!!
RE:RE:imagine this in USA or China or any other large country

also in case you can think someday...that is the point i am making... people need to be told that this can be done by an average man who works hard and not by a guy who could do it as his dad is a millionaire and he had training in germany, singapore and a private shooting yard in his backyard in his farmhouse....
it conveys a message that sports at that level is still only for the rich
a fat lot it will do good for future aspirants...
how did u know i dint defend my country...i just said people did make fun and honestly i would do the same if i heard such a thing...its pathetic...but it is what it is....

I seriously doubt you studied in Harvard. Coount the number of people who went to harvard from india and number of people who won gold medals in olympics...mr. V what kind of person you are? I am sure your loved ones in india would be sad to have some like you in family..they must be boosting about your "Harvard Degree" but you are nothing but a monster..which company you work for in US boss?

India got a gold medal in 108 years history of olympics..i guess there is no harm in meeting in the PM and President of country...for india he is like phelp...we never expect to win medals in olympics..so no harm in meeting. When you did great things even your relatives/friends/bosses/collegues feel proud..so i am sure any country PM/Pesident can do the same. Yaar i am sure how long you have stayed out of india..but your comments are really uncalled.

V, dude i agree with u man. Media ppl are going overboard and a re actually making a mockery of our country in the world stage, nothing of bindra's fault. poor chap has gotta understand that the ppl who are patting him now will soon forget him when he becomes 'old' news or when someother sensation comes up. I think he's quite mature abt it. Coz, many many young and promising people in this country have been spoilt by these kind of hypocrites. And their career has been wasted totally. even in cricket, if someone performs wel in just 1 match, he's given the superhero status and invariably the pressure causes him to perform worse and ppl simply dump him. we must stop making heroes of our sports persons. Let us encourage them, not worship them. these politicos and media dont care a shit abt u when u are struggling in life. but when u achieve glory, they come to share space and take credit shamelessly. Biggest joke was P.R Das Munshi giving statements. I mean, where this guy even related to any of this man!!
RE:imagine this in USA or China or any other large country

this is called recognition ... if there wasn't a recognition, you would have called that the same leaders have failed in recognizing the contribution to Indian olympic ... like you tried to compare his acievement with your 2 cent math competition.
bindra was already a khel ratna winner, he had represented India in several intl tournaments and won medals .... this time he scored even bigger ... he has achieved what others failed to come close to ... the guy is great.
who cares what you think ... it's just yr opinion and yr opinion doesn't count.

I know his family and him personally...I was born and lived in chandigarh for 17 yrs then did MS and MBA from harvard and now work here. people like loan shark are nice...they entertain me...he made me smile as otherwise the evening was slow
but the truth is that this is Yellow Journalism. Among 20 different headlines on Bindra since last 2 days, I read one in which it was written that Bindra ate only omellete and 2 bread pieces and looks forward to paneer at home!!!
I mean come on people, this is a mockery of India at the international level!
further media is writing things like his success is coz of his international training in germany and his dad's money etc....that means most people will think of this as if not achievable by the common man and only a medal of the rich upper class...
Its not Bindras fault. Its all this juornalism and these politicians

mr. V if you have studied in Harvad..does it mean what you think and write is correct? Did you ever see TV program NBA Inside out - It talks about the houses/eating habits of US basket ball players...what type of "Journalism. " is that...india kare to bakwaas and US kare to wah wah!! Also there are more paparazzi mess outside india...People like you make mockery of self and country by thinking this way...news channels in US are also not different..some one's cat/dog lost are reported a breakng news...so please think before you write...I am not sure common man can win medals in olympics in india but a comman man after reading toughts of a Harvard pass out will know no point going there and study!! Stop blowing your own trumphet...you are a shame to india , harvard!!

arey bhai who even said anything abt bindra. I am with the nation in feeling proud abt the gold he has brought for this I-Day. Its a great achievement no doubt. But all this media limelight can be very dangerous for his career if its not handled carefully by him. These politicians and bureaucratic ppl, should first recognize their job. That is develpoment of sports facilities, infrastructure, finding out the talented ppl from the corners of the country, training them and motivating them,. We have talent. we have ppl to train. unfortunately we have very little interest from the bureaucracy.

Ram please note you are talking like Lord Rama..yaar take a chill pill..if you think "bureaucracy." can bring medals then you are wrong...even countries like US have great infra..so do all people win gold medals...people like you in US working and earning are also in true sense gold medallist...did you await "bureaucracy" to help you clear GATE/GMAT etc...stop complaining dude!! Breaking news and sensational news even sells in US the same way...so enjoy the moment and let all people(including munshi, kalmadi) make hay while the sun is shining..

Hi Mr. V,
Its not about a Single Gold Medal. It is about being the best in his discipline for the next 4 years. Have you ever thought about that? Show some respect. And what's with your anonymous signature "V" and bragging about your Harvard Degree. And I kind of understand what kindda company you work in , where your colleagues laugh at an olympic champion. It was VP Hamid Ansari who said it, and he is he, not she... And I agree, that this president is a push on our throat, and can never overcome the perception that she is ebbetted in congress culture, and not an independent with excellence.
RE:vice president ?
by Loan Shark on Aug 15, 2008 04:06 AM
VP said (and I am praphrasing) that this just a start ... you will get more Golds ... don't consider your mission accomplished ... strive for more next time.
It's like telling your kid who if the first in your family to ever get a distinction in one subject to do even better next time.
In India there are lots of Talents in India, who can win many more potential Gold Medals for the Country. But due to corruption, politics, and lack of money, those talents are fast disappearing. Take for example Budhia Singh from Orissa. He is a 4 year old sensational marathon runner from Orissa, who got into Limca Books of Records. He was trained and brought into limelight by his coach Biranchi Das, who was later murdered by Government Functionaries. Due to popularity of this kid, Government tried to take advantage of it, and made false allegations against his Coach that he can not take proper care of him. And by using force they took Budhia away from Biranchi Das. But the truth is that his coach Biranchi das took this kid out from a Slum in Bhubaneswar, and trained him personally to become a marathon runner. But Govt. authorities who tried to gain some financial gain from Budhia's Popularity took him away by making false allegations against his coach. Now this kid is ruining his life in the Slum again all because of the in-competence of Orissa Govt... This is just one example of one kid. But there are thousands more who are ruining their life, and talents like this. China is winning so many golds because they have communist rule, and they do not have so much politics like India. India needs at least 5 years of Military Ruling to eradicate corruption, and make this Country a Better one for all.

Drona asks Ekalavya for a dakshina or deed of gratitude that a student owes his teacher upon the completion of his training. Ekalavya replies that there is nothing he would not give his teacher. This is the problem of we Indian. Once into limelight we think that we are demi-gods and forget the people who had helped us in what we have achieved. No where else could it be clearly reflected other than the game we all indians adore - Cricket. Remember..? John Wright...? Ian Chappell... These people made the us believe that we can win abroad... too...! And what did they get in return...? Pain & Insult.. Just ask these bunch of BCCI backed clowns to behave like that to any European Club Football Coaches...! They would drill their Foot(Balls) up these clowns' rears...! Biranchi Das is a coach... And as any coach they would push their players to the limit...That why west has coaches like, Herman Boone of Remember The Titans Fame, Jack Lengyel of We Are Marshalls Fame...! We Indians are hypocrites...! We say our sanskar is the best in the world and we never follow it..! Only we use them in election speeches or to boast our inferior mindsets.
Respect People ... Respect...! Its our Independence Day today..! Wish you all good luck & work..! Wishes to get out of our shackles and get free in the near Future...!

As of 13th August 2007 Budhia's coach "Biranchi Das" was arrested by Indian police on suspicion of torture. Singh has accused his coach of beating him and withholding food, and said he would give up running. Police said they had arrested Das and charged him with criminal intimidation. Das says Singh's family are making up charges as a result of a few petty rows. He said he recently expelled Singh's sister from a judo school he runs because she misbehaved, and he had refused to build Singh's mother a new house. But Singh showed reporters scars he said were left by the coach's mistreatment. "He hung me upside down from a ceiling fan," he told reporters, smiling and fidgeting. "He locked me in a room for two days without food." Das denies the charges and says the scars are old, the result of the boy's tough early childhood in a slum in the eastern Indian city of Bhubaneswar.
On April 13, Biranchi Das was shot dead in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa in what is believed to be an event unconnected with Budhia Singh
