RE:Why Indians are not enough for Olympic Medals?
by V on Aug 13, 2008 06:10 PM
It is about hard work. Heroism comes after years and years of disciplined hard work.

We (most indians) dont want to work hard, but definitely want to be heroes.

We dont have any individual character in us. We have no sport or game that we play well EXCEPT the ridiculous Cricket which only a bunch of nations play in the world and most consider it to be a time waste. If we are 5th among 10 nations that play cricket, we start worshipping these cricket people.

It is as stupid as it gets. Countries 1/20th of our population manage to win 20 times more medals which implies that they are 20 x 20 = 400 times better than us in performing. But we are too busy blaming it on the 'system' or watching cricket (leaving aside our jobs and studies etc.) and thinking that we are heroes!

Also worst is that deep inside, no matter where indians are, what level they reach, in their sub concious mind, they always consider whites to be superior to them. Go to any succesful organisation, even if an Indian is at a high post, he/ she will have a white boss who is probably less qualified academically and professionaly. Reality is that western people are better managers in general and know how to manipulate people like Indians everywhere and will continue to do so till we all think for ourselves, trust ourselves and work hard to be known and not just claim to be the best or be heroes!!

Cricket is not even a game nor a sport. It is a waste of time. Always was a waste of time and will be.

Complex:

I know everything about the game.
I clearly remember people like Ranatunga who captained a world class team who looked 7 months pregnant. He used to run like a duck wading in water...

any other sport, have you seen the athletes? Compare their BMI (body mass index) to cricketeers and you will know.

Tell me one thing, why can not any other active sport be played for one whole day or 5 days??

It is not possible to do it. Even if some one takes out time to see a football match, it takes 3 hours not a day or 5 days to finish.

I agree 20-20 format is slightly better than others, but all in all, no matter what you say cricket is a cancer and will eat up all sports in india.

I have been in US a decade now, i know how people follow sports here, 99% is only weekends or evenings. No body can take a day off for a match when you get 10 or 15 days off in one whole year.

Wake up, really!!

Exactly, thats the reason I am telling you to update your databse about this game. Ranatunga use to play cricket in late 80's and now it is 2008!!!
You are talking about any other sports which high BMI's, what about sumo, wrestling, judo, weight lifting amd many more to go...
reagarding any game played for 5 days, have you watched golf? tiger woods, vijay singh, jeev milka singh. this game is palyed for 3 days and that too without any active excercise, players just walk around and hit the ball, still earn fame and name!!!
US is not the end of the world, come out of the pond and look around you. Look at EU, asia and you will find US is odd man out!!

If you see its history, it was started by the ROYAL people of England, who would do nothing but bat the ball and their servants would keep fielding and bowling. It was a way for the royal to pass time.

Then the britishers came and ruled in the Indian subcontinent. If you see closely this game is played mostly by countries who were influenced by the British culture. Do you call this game your own? We have NO game of international standing of our own.

Most countries do not have time to stand in the field and scratch their crotches 5 days at a time and call it a game. Millions of people stop working or studying to watch this slow stupid game and the only ones getting rich are the players who make millions. This money comes from the common man.Can indians afford it?

In olympics there are thousands of track and field events and games. We stand no where. Every 6th person in the world is Indian!!
Now count the number of games/track/field events in olympics and the total medals given. Do we get 1/6th of them?

we dont even get 1/1000th of them! ha but we can shout names on each other and be happy!!

MR Guest:

I mentioned the reality. Before you go into my details, kindly tell me what purpose did your question or comment serve?

You felt good just making someone else small? Your contribution is neither a reality, nor a fact or has any good purpose. It is just a mud sling and itching for a fight.

Well about me, atleast I represented India in something called as a Mathematics Olympiad in 1999 in a team of 5 people in 68 countries. I won 2nd position.

Its not about me or you here, its about thinking for ourselves. If 100 people read this, atleast 20 will take something positive out of it. 60 will ignore it and 20 will sling mud back at me as if I have used your personal computer's disk space to write this!!

If you dont have anything positive to say, you can keep quiet, mud slinging will not make you a hero trust me!

Mr. V,
That is your point of view. And you have abused cricket not becos it takes long time to finish but becos you don't like it!! There are different version ot this game and some get over as fast as 4 hours with definite results.
I agree that we have never excel in olympics from 1900, but cursing one particular game does not gurantee a olympic gold medal!!!!
The reason for cricket to be so much popular in india is not becos we as fan follow it foolishly, it is becos anyone can play it anytime and anywhere, if you have ever visited any small village, people play in fields!!
In one of your post you have mentioned about Indians dominated by caucasian? you go anywhere around the world, the situation is same. Chinese, Japanese, Singaporean, middle east and so on...., nothings new about it. But this is at initial set up, once this phase is gone, I have seen Indians at top position!!! Infact I have friends who has frenchs and americans working under him.
And don't forget that there are few eaxmples like mittals who have caucasians working for him.
In short, what I can summarize from you post is that, you like some of others just like to blmae Indians and cricket for nothing and you have done it in exceptionally polished manner

We all have to wake up and realize that the britishers are Gone!! really!!

its about time that we got a game which is OUR own and not copying britishers from their time pass game.

What is ironic is that I have seen many matches in the news on TV being played in the developed countries of UK and Australia and most of them (i said most not all) have very few spectators. Just because people there can not afford to take a day off to sit and just watch!

Sports like football in usa have games scheduled on weekends mostly so that people can watch it, on a work day no one can. but in india everday is a weekend, who cares!

That is the cancer of cricket. It is stalling the development and progress of india not only in sports but as a nation as it wastes the time of millions of people who should be either studying or working at their jobs.

i have seen (i am sure you have too) on TV how people even start praying and going to temples before indian matches to 'help' them win!!

This is the age of science! what else can i say.

About caucasian people, yes they will dominate till you let them. They know how to do it very very well. I myself have studied and worked in USa since years...i know caucasian people are very diplomatic and know how to make others work.

Ofcourse there are examples of people like mittal etc and yes i do admire them. They should be made heroes and not ganguly's or dhonis.

The natches you are talking about are domestic games and that too are crowded in UK, yeah in OZ it is less crowded. but for all the international games, I have never seen any matches in UK, OZ, WI or anywhere which are not housefull and mind it they are not on weekends.
Talking about football(soccer) US doenot play this game. Now if You look at la liga, EPL, champion league, matches are scheduled on any days and all are jam packed.
So dude, fans are fans, whether it is cricket, soccer, of football.
You are talking about people praying before indian matches? have you ever seen chinese people watching soccer? they are more superstitious than indians!!
Nothing wrong in praying, it is just an inner belief. It is same like when you pray before going for any exams or start any new business. No one comments at that time about science age!!!
Yeah I agree caucasian will dominate as usual, but there are many indians abroad including myself, who make them work!! And I do it proudly

Complex:

A very close blood relative of mine was recently the BCCI president himself! And even to him, I have always maintained that this is a stupid game and will always be.

The basic mentality in a sport is not only to entertain, to inculcate a healthy team and competitive spirit and to be physically fit.

For the normal man, not competing in olympics, a sport should be such that playing it can be good for health and the mind.

I have seen many many villages and I totally agree to what you are talking about. In the same villages, teachers dont teach, kids play cricket for 8 to 10 hours a day

reason, i guy stands and hits the ball and ocassionaly runs...most are just standing and sort of observing most of the time. Not all players have active contribution in the game at all times. physical activity is limited.

Try playing any game like football, basketball, hockey or anything else for 10 hours!! you just can not! as these games are really demanding on the body and that is why they are sports. Cricket historically was a time pass for the rich and royal people, was not really meant for poor people in the villages. Even if one of these villagers does someday grow up to become tendulkar, how many among millions and millions would that be considering politics etc? and what about the lakhs of others who waste time and are not even developing physically from it?

amount of time people waste in offices watching or listening to commentary of cricket?figure it out..

Exactly, thats what I am saying thats your perception becos you don't like this game!!!.
I think you should incerase your knowledge database about this game. Gone are those days where batsman use to hit a ball and filder stood clapping and watch it go past the boundary line. Show me a single player in any of the cricket playing team who is not physically fit to play and is not diving, running his heart out to save the runs fromm being scored?? And thats the only reason that a player can play cricket till the age of 39 and still is as agile and fit as an teenager!
Regarding cricket fans, Same is true with each and every game. I have seen people skipping work if they are watching soccer game and same is true for basket ball
Regarding our villages, it is not that teachers are not concerned about educating kids, it is villagers mentality which doesnot promotes the eagerness in kids to study.

Why Indians are not enough for Olympic Medals?
by GG on Aug 13, 2008 06:05 PM  | Hide replies

Few of the reasons are below

1. Indian food habits are not appropriate for physical stamina. Have to eat Non Veg in right proportion to become aggressive in Games. Thats why Punjabi's & Keralites are somewhere near Olympic medals

2. BLOODY POLITICIANS and FULLY CORRUPT SYSTEM. We have politicians like Dhanushkodi Adithyan(SPORTS MINISTER OF INDIA)(past Sports minister sometime in 2000) who declared India will get 100 Gold medals in next Olympics without even knowing how maximum America is getting. Later he changed his declaration after getting facts from SECRETARY about his IDIOTICS.

3. Education is the only thing. Parents pressurise kids only to STUDY STUDY..... Due to the lack of Sports & Physical Exercise, STUDDIES is alos BAD

4. Indian mindset & attitude is not good to win challenging games.

4. BLOODY USELESS IDIOTS CRICKET which creates more TV viewers. People wastes days watching Tests. Instead we have to enjoy playing some games

5. Good sports facilities are not available for masses

6. Media which gets money from BCCI for making Indians Cricket addicts

7. Laziness of Indians

8. If injured, Life is gone. Nobody to support. Even parents will reject.

9. First Olympic medalist(1952 Olympic wrestler KD Jadhav - BRONZE) died in POVERTY

10. Short version games are not given any coverage in TV Channels

11. BCCI ensures that coverage is not given for any channels

12. Long time games only have Commercial values and can tighten the bloo

Your analysis lack any depth.
1. Only people like you think that eating non-veg do better. I myself has been a vegetarian all my life and practiced Taekwon-do and won many prizes and did much better than my non-veg colleagues. You can achieve physical fitness by eating good and nutritious vegetarian food. In addition you can maintain much better health than carnivorous men.
2. Indian mindset is filled with inferior complex thanks to our education system.
3. Now cricketers also want to introduce cricket (20-20 format) in Olympics, many Indians will rejoice for sure... Even get a bronze in cricket, cricketers will be made national heroes than Abhinav Bhindra or KD Jhadav or Jaspal Rana...

The best thing about cricket and Hitler is only one!

Once Hitler was made to sit in a match as a chief guest back in those days when germany just started playing it for some time.

He sat there and observed it for some time and got up and ordered:

Yeah, keep at it Sabu. Problems are problems, you have to encourage sports and have to be good at it. It's a reflection of how sophisticated the country is and also helps in the well being of the entire populace which in turn will help the country in it's productivity, etc. Just imagine the pride China might be feeling right now heading the medals table. They were nothing 15 years ago, now they are on top of all the countries and imagine what that does to the confidence of the country and what they want to achieve.
