Where are Russian Gymnasts?
by S Shrikanth on Aug 13, 2008 02:38 PM  | Hide replies

There was a time when Russian Gymnasts had no match. Where are they?

I remember Russia had whipped US in Gold medals tally in 1976 (Russia 47, US 41) and then East Germany had pushed US to third place in 1988.

In 1988, West Germany finished 4th, China 5th followed by Cuba at 6th.

Things have changed a lot since then.

Sorry for wrong information. China did not take part in Seoul due to friendship with North Korea. Here is the medal tally for 1988:

USSR 55 31 46
German Democratic Republic (1955-1990, GDR) 37 35 30
United States of America 36 31 27
Korea 12 10 11
Federal Republic of Germany (1950-1990, "GER" since) 11 14 15
Hungary 11 6 6
