There's a huge difference between 'athletic' sports such as basketball, soccer, hockey, track & field etc and cricket, which basically is a lazy man 'sport' which requires very little physical exertion and stamina, and that's precisely why cricket is so big in India- it does not require physical prowess!
India does not support atheletes, much & SHOOTING is a way too much a demand. When the craze for CRICKET subdues only then can we think of atheletes in INDIA & sportsmen getting the correct training. Then we shall have more people like BINDRA.

Vikram, Bringing Pakistanis in here is totally unwarranted. There are always going to be bad elements anywhere you go , but stereotyping an entire nationality on account of a few militants is in bad taste. Would you not be pissed if someone refers to Indians as snake-charmers and elephant-riders? Do you even know that outside of India and Pakistan , hardly anybody can even make out the difference between the two countries.

C'mon you know why- India need to also have people to parade in the opening ceremony, and so they scrape the barrel for anyone remotely connected with 'sports' to bulk up their contingent, never mind they'll come home empty-handed. If they had any shame they'd just make a declaration that India will abstain from all future Olympics due to being 'athletically challenged'.
