good thoughts

by abhinav that ppl shud support all the olympic participants with or without medal.

however, its saying that 'jo jeeta vohi sikandar' but v further extend the saying to 'haara vo bandar'. it might hv been just a few mm of shot away but that wud disqualify from medal. yet v hv to appreciate the medal winner bcoz he is the sikandar.
but yes, even the losers in the event hv put in a lot of hard work. only thing is that they hv not succeeded.

i think entering the semis wud ensure a bronze. so she is just one victory away from a medal.

Supporting sports
by Reporter on Aug 12, 2008 06:20 PM  | Hide replies

Yes, what he said is true. We should support our athlets irespective of their achievement.... He knows how hard it is to get a medal in olympics.... A few millimeters from the target can throw anyone out of competition ... all of them try hard to achieve the best ....

I have read the statement of shooting coach, in another website, that Rathore would not have been in the team and somebody else must have been there ..... This is our attitude , we do not support the people who work hard, but does not achieve their aim... I guess , Rathore was in Indian team, because he qualified .... and not because of his past results..... Even the coach does not understand his situation and he should not have commented at this stage....

Another issue is the support from corporate world.... there are plenty of companies who makes profits of thousands of cores every year, but they dont support any sports except cricket ( best eg. Ambani's Mumbai IPL team)..... Cant they sponsor or support other sports without thinking about some returns...... they have to sonsider this as a social responsibility....

I appreciate Indian railways for recruiting and providing jobs for thousands of sports persons of India. Even if they are given ticket collectors job, these athlets are assured of a job for the rest of the life and stay in the sports field than to quit sports and search for a job to make their ends meet.

If you want sports to flourish in this country, we should first inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship in every citizen. Sportsmen cannot achieve anything in a country where people believe that they need to be smart and not be sportsman like to succeed in life. More over sports is a game of pure merit. It can thrive only in a place where merit scores over everything else. In a country where merit is made a mockery of by rampant corruption, nepotism and the so called reservation irrespective of income status, sports can never flourish. Take it from me, as economic growth accelerates, we may have individual sports persons who might work hard to excel for the lure of fame and money. We just do not have the right mindset for sports. Let us not fool ourselves by saying that these government sponsored training institutions would be able to do anything great. We need change our lives to be sportsman like before we dream of being a sporting country.

It is true that SODHI Ronjan broke the world record and was the indian number one as on 18/06/2008 in the double trap, but qualification in olympics is based on quotas and the place india got went to Rathore. All said and done, he still was india's best chance because he'd been there and done it.It is easy to say retrospectively that Ranjan should have been there(AS OUR COACH DID) but Ranjan will get his chance in the next asain games, commonwealth and hopefully the london olympics
