Introspection - ban cricket for 15 yrs
by Ram Sharma on Aug 12, 2008 10:59 AM  | Hide replies

It is great that Abhinav has given us the first individual gold in the history of Olympics and any gold after 28 yrs. Earlier we hv got gold in hockey for 8 times.

Here it is to b understood that he has got gold only due to his and his father's determination and not due to any sports authorities or govt efforts. His father had arranged air-conditioned laboratory for Abhinav, German coaches, training in Germany. WE SHOULD INTROSPECT THAT HAD ABHINAV BEEN FROM A POOR FAMILY, HE WOULD NOT HV GOT ANY MEDAL, bcz in India only cricketers get crores of rupees in advertisement, selling themselves to clubs and match fees. They get all the facilities. Players from other games r ill treated and they do not get any training or proper infrastructure for development. Moreover cricket is also a drain on our resources and time. World cricket is financed by us and it is a very time consuming game.

PROBABLY, IT WILL B BETTER TO BAN CRICKET FOR SAY 15 YRS OR SO, so that other games come into limelight, get developed and get all the required attention and facilities. USA had long banned cricket for this reason only.

Abhinav Bindra should deserves 10 time more than any cricket player, he may b Sachin, Dhoni or whatever. Bcz winning in Olymipcs is much more difficult that winning against a few cricket playing countries of former British colonies.

Well done

I feel proud that we have won a medal. We need to encourage more of our talented youth to excel in sports rather than join fanatical political parties and become a liablility for the nation.

Not a single political party have any vision here for the youth, shame and disgusting.

Congrrts to abhinav n his parents
by JOEL D\ on Aug 11, 2008 09:40 PM

Congrts Bindra,,,,,
U managed this due to your hard work and the investment of your parents.....according to the bbc they even constructed a shooting range at home for him to practice besides spending their own money....imagine if he was only dependent on the indian govt...i doubt he would have achieved anything with govt support or non support.......i hope this will be a turning point where the Govt will realise we have the potential in many sports - Now we have to groom it (like china) instead of focusing only on cricket and producing a team that cannot even beat sri lanka

Congrats to Bindra for making nation proud. He really deserves a pat on the back. But are we not over reacting. Its there on all news chanells.Come on we are a nation of 1.5 billion and a gold is seen as something incredible. This atitude itself sucks. When a samll nation like Korea or Chez can win a gold why are we in so desbelief.
