Tennis needs more Mcenroes,Beckers,Agassis,Sampras....
by Donny Mathew on Aug 07, 2008 04:46 PM

Tennis is in real need of the type of players like McEnroe,Becker,Sampras,Agassi etc which made the sport very interesting. Now it has boiled down to 2 players dominating the sport completely which is kind of a bore. Yes they are great players but it is not them who need to up their game but the rest of the players. Is Federer and Nadal invincible. The answer is NO. Can Nadal only beat Federer and Vice Versa? Again the answer is NO. But unfortunately top players of today lack the drive and 'game' to give a serious challenge to these 2 guys.

Tell me friends what is the fun in watching a tournament when you know that it will be a Nadal-Federer final. No tension,no close games.I am not putting down these 2 players by my comment but i sure would like to inspire others to up their game.

Federer - a different experience
by shiva on Aug 07, 2008 04:26 PM  | Hide replies

He is meeting Tursnov. It will not be a walk in the park. The latter will be smelling blood already! Safin recently called it quits against him.

Federer is a boon to tennis. He is feeling the pressure. He is human after all. To loose Wimbledon final will be hurting still. Anybody across the net looks different now.

From personal experience at a different level, I can tell you the world looks different. Having considered a back-bone to the company & being played out is something similar. Any kind words of better luck next time hurts even more! Life does play tricks. Enjoy the moments! It may not last!

You don't need meat to keep fit. Eating right vegetarian food is just sufficient.

His form has deteriorated a bit in last few months but that does not mean he is not the classy player , it is just a dip in form.I think he still have the fire stokes to beat anybody.I like this well mannered player. He is too good as a player and also human being.

surely one cannot say that a player who reached the finals of both french and wimbledon is not a top class player. One thing that has done hims is that Nadal has increased his level of play and another Federer's fitness has not been at the top since the beginning of 2008.

Federer-The Artist and Master of Tennis

As Steve Waugh said a few years back, Form is temporary but Class is permanent. It may be premature to write off Roger Federer. If we recollect the latest Wimbledon Final, Federer was down 2 sets and then won the next and lost the final set in a Tie-breaker (9-7). It was a historic come back not he failed register a historic win. Such a fight back was never witnessed so far during the wimbledon final. Let us wait and see whether the new number Rafael Nadal shows the consistency which Federer showed for 5 long years and will come to close to all time tennis greats or fade away in a couple of years.

It is also called a tie-breaker, the only difference being sets are played in tie-breaker instead of points.

Lets enjoy what the master does best he has grace and class personified I just adore Fedrer a lot he is a true role model for all the youngsters who wana achieve success and yet remain extremely humble. I hate the Olympics

I hate the Olympics…
Every four years, its depression time. Being a positive thinker, its’ very hard to find any good in the Olympic games as an Indian…
The Media will start their barking, The IOA (kalmadi) resurfaces and talks some crap, everyone is on chat shows blaming everyone else and finally, the people in the centre of the action, the athletes come 15th or 16th ….or are drug tainted and bring more shame than accolades.
Even worse is me, I promise to do something about it, and I continue to write such notes every four years….

I agree with you. The next 15-16 days is going to give us more inferiority complex. The whole world will show us how much they have progressed and how much we lag. Once the games are over we can again sit back, watch the pathetic television serials and dream of an Olympic medal in 2060...

Gandhiji once said-"No one can humiliate you till the time you yourself wish to get humiliated".

We have good chances to win in shooting, tennis and T-20. Lets keep the hopes alive!!!

Its very heartening to hear that unlike most of the Tennis Pros who choose to play in ATP event to collect points and money, Federer is representing country in Olympics. Players like Jim Courier, Becker, Sampras had declined to play in olympics as it hurt the interest of their sponsors.
