This season has been very gruelling, which has demanded peak fitness for an inordinately prolonged period. Federer started the season badly with some mysterious fever, and never regained full fitness because of the crowded calender. He already looks a famished man. We can hardly expect him to win Olympic Gold or the U.S. Open in this kind of form. May be after a good rest after the U.S. Open, he can bounce back in 2009, when the calender returns to normalcy.
Federer is extremely talented. It is not a small feat to be No 1 for 4.5 years at a stretch, win 12 GS, be as graceful a player as ever could and yet be down-to-earth
As for Nadal, he too is an awesome player. I admire his fighting spirit and his attitude. NO bragging about his talent or downplaying opponents. He definitely deserved to be No.1
It is a less of a heartbreak for me that Fed will no longer be numero uno for the fact that Nadal is taking over.
But i do look forward to Fed-Nadal rivalry continued for a long period of time.
Keep up the good rivalry. Tennis needs you both :)

yes.. in today's intensely competitive tennis scene.. its a gr8 achievement to be no for 4.5 yrs... its just like today's playback singers.. who can't even get 500 songs in their career.. cause of competition.. when lata mangeshkar got 50000.... its a lot more tougher to be on top these days.. so 4.5 yrs is a huge achievement..
