indians dont know how to appreciate
by raj on Aug 05, 2008 09:33 AM

by reading comments of human value my belief is confirmed tht indians dont know how to appreciate.i live in usa and have a restaurant and man indian customers will come with no smile on face, with attitude and most thankless people i ever have seen even though im indian too annd they complain abt everything.and if u dont belive me check the survey done by intl tourism worlwide.indians top the list of thankless and complaining people.
this guy Human value does nt know meaning of winning back 2 cack NCAA tennis.its nt like indian tennis, its the toughest college tennis competetion in the world.and players like JAMES CLAKE,JOHN ISNER,SAM QUERRY,AMER DELIC,RAJEV RAm r production of college tennis.
this guy is playing very well and he will do better than much celebrated sania or dhoni.im sure within 1 yr somdev will be top75 player if keep his focus on the game not on star status.and 23 is not a old guy.if nadal has won 30 atp titles at age of 22,somdev might have done too if he had a strong financial background.

And at the ripe old age of 23 ....
by Human Value on Aug 04, 2008 11:55 PM  | Hide replies

First of all his name is DEVVARMAN and not DEWARMAN. Somdev might make it big or might not, but there is no point glorifying him at this time. He'll probably get a KHEL RATNA named after the great sportsman RAJEEV GANDHI if he breaks into top 100 :-)

The day is not far when our Somdev would decimate Nadal on the latter's favourite clay court..the scoreline would read 6-2, 6-1, 6-0. by the way is this tennis prodigy a bengali?

More Somdev required in all sports
by prashant pitti on Aug 04, 2008 11:09 PM

Congrats to Somdev, but we all have to accept the fact that, India, with the population of 1 billion, produces talented sports players very sporadically. One can argue it happens because of India's bad infrastructure to give opportunity and training to young sports enthusiast. I use to think exactly like all other, then one day I decided to do something..
After quitting my banking jobs, to try to pump up Indian sports(not just cricket): I am launching IndiaKhelo.com, which will create local sports leagues all over India and help us find talented players from each corner of India.

Currently I am looking for partners (people who are equally passionate about Indian sports as we are) from all over India. If anyone finds it interesting, please do visit IndiaKhelo.com

funny that you idiots can only understand cricket. having played tennis with somdev i must truly appreciate that he really is on the right path to making it big in tennis. tennis unlike cricket is intensely competitive with people from all across the world being very very good at it. and its really nice to see an Indian do well in such a competitive sport. hope he goes on to break into the top 100 which itself is a good achievement. people who bloody watch cricket dont know any other sport. not maligning cricket but it is no way a truly international sport. hardly has nine countries playing in it and out of them only four or five play properly. hope Indians do well in football , athletics and some proper olympic sports as well .. hoping for the best .

The article glorifies him like he beat Federer or something. Gimme a break the country has such a dearth of talent that a player seeded 320 is glorified like this. RIDICULOUS!

Human Value, you appear quick to criticize the 23 year old without considering the obvious potential evidenced by his multiple wins over top 100 opponents in his 2 short months on the Pro tour. If you know how the rankings are arrived at, and I'm not sure you do based on your comment, you would realize that Somdev has moved up in the rankings almost as fast as humanly possible so why the negative words. Give him more time and you will see the error of your shallow opinion

Human value seems to have no idea on how difficult it is to be among first 1000 in ATP ranking.Somdev has shown great potential & we r lucky to have someone like him along with Prakash. The duo should serve nation well in years to come

Which top 100 player did he defeat? Go Soeda's current ranking is 124. He was ranked outside the top-200 all of last year. As far as I can see Somdev has only competed in Tier-3 events where there are never any top-100 players.

If you actually knew how rankings work, you would know that going from 1000 to 100 is very easy (at that level) as most of the players are so close on points. Even to go from 100 to 50 doesn't require you to have actually won a Tier-1 tournament (case in point.. Anna Kournikova... she even reached the top 10 without winning a single tourney).

In this day and age, if you're not in the top 50 by 23, you're most likely never going to get there. Of course, miracles do happen...

Som beat Kendrick in the final of the Lexington Challanger 3 and 3 after beating Bob Reynolds in R2 6-7, 7-5, 6-4 His "wins" over Malisse and Lu were due to injuries and should not be counted when sizing up Som's potential. In a charity exhibition on clay in July he took home $40K by defeating, in order, Sam Querray in 3 sets, Kendrick again and Dudi Sela 6-2, 6-3 in the final. Exibition or not there were relatively big bucks up for grabs. Still sounds very good for the first 2 months in the pros.

SOmdev has really shown some talent there. Now is the high time for the corporates to sponsor his trainings. But they should not divert his mind form tennis to Commercials which is thecommon case in India to the famous. Fame & Riches further develope cracks in their concentration levels thus making it difficult for them to deliver their best on the field.

Thus big mantra is... Sponsor them but don't waste their time in shoots.... let them develope into the mould and think of 2012 London Olympics. It would feel nice if there are some medals for this country of more than Billion people. Nothing is impossible. you just have to give it a hard try.

All the Best SOmdev. All the Best India.

I hope rohan and prakash dont start complaining. somdev has definitely proved his worth. rohan is in his late 20s and has been around for sometime but luck deserted him long ago. I hope indian tennis rocks soon.
