Sports in India?
by Balakrishna PK on Aug 18, 2008 04:47 PM

Stupids are the cricket watchers

Stupids are the Politicians who eat-up the Grants towards Sports developments. It's ultimate we, the people of India who are stupids that we never protest about these bloody politions.

Stupids are the corporates who sponsors only cricket.

Stupids are the Cola Mfrs that always support cricket

Y not V and surely V can win Hundreds of golds in any sports...

It will take another 50 years to make this dream come true...

Did U watch todays stupid-cricket performance. They are wordless. Bravos are the Lankans... Jamaicans, Japanese, Koreans...

Before feeling ashamed or embarrassed about not sucking in olympics, how much encouragement did you give your child in sports? Are u not nagging him to study all the time? Have you given swimming lessons to him or tried to teach him tennis or badminton and tried to spend some time in out door sport activities? If not just shut up. You have no right to think some one else will motivate our children in sports. Honestly tell us how much time u spend in bollywood movies and dances as opposed to sports?

Dear Calspadeaspade:

Rajeev's article is superb and shows up that India is ruled by backboneless men of straw with no strategic vision.

Strange that Indians (dopes that they are) cannot stomoch constructive criticism and resort to personal attacks.

Take the criticism like a man (gracefully) and strive to improve without giving stupid excuses.

olympics is bullshit
by Calspadeaspade on Aug 06, 2008 06:48 PM  | Hide replies

It is child abuse in some sports and show of the power of steroids in others. Can you watch these events like track and swimming as a spectator sports? Now they are beginig to have spectator sports like Tennis and Soccer and Hockey which is meaningless. There are special international events for those sports which is more interesting. Olympics athletes train for years to compete for a few minutes, Which is ridiculous easte of time money and energy. I am glad at least there is cricket in India. But people should take part in some form of sports for their own fitness benifits instead of just being spectators. Even Russia is not doing that great after communism got eradicated. Before that they had a nationalized program for olympic events where they trained like trainig for war. same thing is happenin in China.

Exactly. How many Indians have even seen a swimming pool?. What ever medals some Indians won like P.T.Usha and Malleswari are by their own effort with out any help from the state or any corporations. In a country like australia or US families are naturally into sports. They have the means. Not so in a poor country like India.Commie countries like CHina and USSR East Germany(before) had rigorous nationalized program because they had to show to the world they are the best. Look at Russia now. This was obvious in figure skating in winter olympics where Russians flopped. About steroid it is a fact almopst all athletes are in it. Some are caught after the event like marian Jones and Ben Johnson. Many are not caught.

Don't be embarrassed - we are like that only
by Rajeev Iyer on Aug 06, 2008 11:29 AM  | Hide replies

Many Indians who have been exposed to the global world share this "I am always embarrassed" feeling with which the author opens the above article.

They are embarrassed about our poor show in sports. Embarrassed about how we spit, urinate, defeacate in public. About our lack of discipline. Lack of time-management. Lack of cleanliness. Our accent. Dress-sense. Lack of road manners. Quality of politicians. Corruption. Cows on the roads. And lots such more.

But why? These are Indian characteristics. Born out of a unique blend of circumstances, environment, tradition, population explosion, resource crunch, etc - a uniqueness that makes up India. We are like this only and will not change, so what if the western world is so clean and disciplined, so what if no one spits in Singapore, so what if Germans hate coming late for anything.

You have a choice. Be embarrassed. Or do something about it. Or just shut up and accept the reality that is India, because that reality encompasses, at the other end of the spectrum, a beautiful country breaking free of its centuries of exploitation.

And if you are too busy being embarrassed by irrelevant stuff, you are missing partaking in and making the glory that is India as she takes her rightful place at the head of the comity of nations.

And you dont find cows in the streets everywhere in India, I was born in India too and brought up in India, but I find it disgusting to see cows and pigs on the street, and it is not seen everywhere in India, there are clean places in india too

Lets be realistic - how many Indians bother about sports
by Rajeev Iyer on Aug 06, 2008 11:16 AM

We talk about a population of 1 billion plus, but we must realise that for around 99% of them, sport simply does not matter. Feeding themselves and their families at least once a day matters most.

In the hierarchy of Roti-Kapada-Makaan-Sports, the last thing on the mind for the vast majority of the Indian population is Sports!!

So that effectively only leaves out a few million Indians, above poverty, educated, etc. Why are they above poverty - not because of sports but because of their education, which gave them good jobs and allows them to write silly irrelevant articles and messages on forums like these. So do they care about sports? Yes but only to the extent of cribbing about India's lack of olympic medals, or why bengalis not maharashtrians should be in the cricket team.

As for the govt., they are rightly or wrongly better served by solving basic Roti-Kapada-Makaan issues of the people rather than spending time and money on sports. Serving the poor will give them votes, whereas no votes for getting a couple of gold medals in China.

Therefore let's get back to our IT, media or whatever jobs and stop blabbering in this forum about unrealistic things like Indian winning medals at the Olympics. Nobody in that 99% majority cares about that so it will not happen.

Ok so we suck at competitive sport. Who bloody cares??
by Rajeev Iyer on Aug 06, 2008 11:03 AM

The majority of Indians do not care. The ones that do, can only talk about it - they do not have the ability to do anything about it, and they are in a miniscule minority who seem to think that it is important that we do well in sports.

Don't blame cricket. Indians love cricket and our team is borderline good - meaning they win just enough times to keep the fans interested. So Indians watch TV intently when Indian cricket is on display, generating the good monies involved that all in cricket benefit from.

Whereas for other sports, Indians simply do not care. So write your article Rajeevji, and join the league of the angst-ridden sport lover - many have come before you, many will come after you. But Indian sport will never do well at the Olympics,

Because the vast majority just does not care.

A "Tree Jumper" is a nick name for child rapists in US. It is surprising to see so many Indians, most of them highly educated are being captured on camera soliciting children for sex. The nick name in US jails for child rapist is "Tree Jumper". They are treated the worst of all inmates in any Jail. Most of them are repeatedly raped by others in the Jails as well as killed by other inmates.
Not related, but looks like more Indians who migrate from India to US are doing this than others. May be because we do not have tough laws in India against this??!!
Corrected typo error!
