Wz tht Rafael Nadal??
by Pooja Das on Apr 07, 2008 02:06 PM  | Hide replies

Wht wz wrong with Rafa?? He seemed to be playing at not even half his ability! His efforts were far below than expected. I think he probably didnt see Davydenko as tht big a threat and wz in fr a rude shock... Although I think tht shd hv been stupid lukin at the brutal crusade Davydenko executed against Roddick. Even more shocking wz Rafa's meek surrender ... no fight back!! 2nd set wz a complete washout. He has to justify his rank and atleast give his best shot in a prestigious ATP Tournament's Finals! Poor Show Rafa :(

sure agree with u pooja...u know wat...i think rafa gave away the match 2 dav..as per my obs of rafa's play..
1. rafa kept all his balls too short..though he usually sends them a bit short, but he did not even get a lot of spin on them today,so there was no use keepin them short...dav got excellent angles on them all
2.he used backhand spin n slice too many times which made the returns slower n gave davy lots of time to position himself n go for unbelievable angles.
3.was not at his defensive best...not the defender of a rafa whom we seen chase down the most impossible shots easily,so many times.
4.made toooo many unforced errors compared to davy's n his own winners(though they wer only 20 in no.,..they wer enough to giv dav the advantage
5.didn't try to go 4 many winners.

after all these defects in his game today, not to take away the credit from davy for playin unexpectedly n unbelievably well n keepin calm n composed throughout, rafa couldn't have done much than simply givin away the match to dav.i am really dissapointed by rafa's performance today.

Dav is an early ball hitter in the mould of Agassi though not as good as Andre(both mentally and strokewise). This match convinced me that Agassi would have hammered Rafa had they played in the same era(clay could be an exception).Earlier matches played by Dav and Rafa went the distance(last years Italian open on clay was Davs for taking) and dav did not win because of lack of mental toughness.Dav early ball hitting did not give enough time for Rafa to settle down.Dav has a far superior game and has come lot of times upsetting FEDEX.If he can clear his mental fragility he can end up a multiple slam winner.

Federer Needs to Focus
by Ashwin Sardeshpande on Apr 07, 2008 12:13 PM  | Hide replies

I think Federer has lost his form a bit. Its not that the other players have raised their game and are playing better, but I think its Federer who has gone down a bit. For the last 4 years, Federer was playing at a completely different level which was way above the others. That level has gone down now. The magic has deserted him. I just hope that he gets it back soon. C'mon Roger, you are still a long way ahead in terms of talent than the rest ... just get your mental strenght back !!!

Federer and Nadal are facing real competition from Dyokovich and Davydenko, as they may lose their rankings to these upcoming players in near future............

Davydenko an upcoming player !!! have you started watching tennis from this tournament only....buddy :). Just a lean patch for Nadal and Federer. They can beat nicolai any day they want to. Some players like djokovich, tsonga, murray can become threat in near future for the top two. But not davydenko at least.
