thisyear despite a verypoor beginning with a miserable performance in world cricket cup, has been a very satisfying year. we did well in tennis throgh sania, hockey and even football not to speak of t20 world cup and the ultimate individual glory in chess. by far the best year in indian sports.
Its a fantstic win ,Indian have not done very well in individual sports and Anand has always been consistent.Baring cricket,which very few countries around the globe take seriosuly, India is not a country which cares great deal about its sportsmen/women.Only other win which comes to mind is of Prakash and Gopichand when they won the All England.But they too failed to be that much productive s far as medal winning is concerned Its high time tht corporate houses should come forward and help the talented individual atheletes ,because in competitive world, players need good coaching and conditioning ,which is not in reach of many.

I think he wanted to emphasize it in Indians thick mindsets the fact that chess is more important than cricket.
