Congratulations to Vishy for having done India proud.
I am sure that all chess lovers and players would love to welcome you but unfortunately in our country Chess is not a mass game.
I remember Pele saying that Brazil topped the world in football because it was the cheapest game to play in a poor country. 22 people could play with ONE Ball.
I think it is something similar in India. 22 people can play with one bat and one ball. Stumps can be plain wooden sticks. And the best part is that it can be played with a rubber ball ( rs. 10) tennis ball ( rs. 20 ) and can even be played in a gully or in a parking lot of a high rise. I remember having played night cricket on weekends with floodligts in the building driveway because there was no other space in the building in Mumbai.
I am not defending cricket crazy fans but just putting forward a possible reason.
It is up to us chess lovers to ensure that the game becomes popular across all ages and all people.

Congratulations to Anand for his great victory. This really calls for a great celebration by the Governing body for chess in the country, if not for their contribution to his victory, for the great achievement by Anand and to let our politicians know that there are greater sports persons in this country than the cricketers, I have nothing against the cricketers, but the its time the politicians / public realise that there are much greater performances by individuals that are not given proper recognition. Politicians would not be interested in chess or other sports becauswe the governing bodies are not rich and there is no gold mine to earn from.
